always use the tip provided it helps alot and cuts down on damage caused by the drier being to close to the hair. use a heat protecting product.. redken makes some great ones (but im partial) if your going for a straight look blow dry entire hair to about half+ dry using your fingers,, if you try to round brush it from when its wet it will take so much longer. point dryer down and away from head for a smoother finish . invest in a good brush as a hairstylist i have noticed it can mean the diff between ok and great hair.

I find it helpful to do the following: purchase a leave in conditioner that will protect against heatstyling (I use Aveda; it works wonders)... Also, after you have combed your hair and rubbed the leave in conditioner, let your hair either air dry or put it up in a towel for about 5 minutes... Dry your hair when it is wet (not soaked).. this will reduce the amount of time you actually dry your hair, causing less damage to your hair and less frizziness.... trust me it works!!!! (also for tips on flat ironing your hair, look under the hai straighter...
