Better for THICK hair submitted by: Chrissys16, Sat Mar 01 2008

This is an *excellent* product, but CHI Turbo 2-inch really is for thicker hair. If you have fine hair, get the 1 or 1 1/2 inch version. I have long, fine hair and got it because I thought it would be "faster" after my smaller model broke however I found it to be unwieldy and difficult to control (probably because it is designed to handle THICKER hair). The smaller model is MUCH easier to control, so if you are debating between sizes and your hair is more fine than thick, avoid a having to do a product exchange (trust me on this) by choosing the smaller.
Heat Protectant submitted by: Lyanne, Wed Dec 26 2007

I agree with the person below me (Genieve). You should always use a heat protectant serum/spray with any type of heat appliance (straightener, blowdryer, curler, etc.). I recommend Chi Silk Infusion or Frizz-Ease Thermal Protection Hair Serum (I would say Chi Silk Infusion works better). You only need a small amount for it to work. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND Biosilk. It will dry your hair out since it has alochol.

You should always use a heat protectant spray when you are straightening your hair - EVEN WITH CHI - because no matter how good your iron is, ALL irons cause damage.
I would NOT recommend BIOSILK since it contains alochol - which is not good for your hair (it dries it out). (I'm a hair stylist.)
super-straight submitted by: -j-, Fri Mar 23 2007

This straightener does not come with a built-in comb to ensure quick and flawless straightening- what I do to reduce the number of passes over a strand is to use a brush or comb alongside the Chi. This way it doesn't just flatten the curls out and leave your ends looking crazy. My personal preference is a regular vent brush pulled down the strands right underneath the straightener.

if you have super-thick and pretty wavy hair like I do, you'll want to seperate your hair. grab some simple but big clips and do about a third of your hair at a time. clip up the top sections, and start working from the bottom layers to the top ones. takes a tiny bit longer, but the finished product looks alot more polished.
never. ever ever EVER use hair spray before straightening. this a) makes your hair feel weird and b) gets hair spray all over the flat iron.
also, i know that sometimes you'll feel compelled to buy the cheapest one out there simply because it's... well... cheaper... but just save up some money before you buy one, because when you do, you'll want something that lasts. like CHI.
Don't forget to use products! submitted by: Heather, Fri May 12 2006

I think a lot of people think the Chi will just work without using products - this is NOT true. Use a product like biosilk (during and after you use your flat iron).
I would also talk with your stylist about hair care products that will work with your hair type and any chemicals you have in your hair. Also - shampoo and condition play a major part in how your hair reacts to other hair care products and tools.
I wouldn't use cheap drug store shampoo on curly hair. It tends to leave curls looking limp and it also dries out your hair - leaving it like straw!

Make sure you talk to your stylist about proper temperature regulation first. Thankfully mine told me before I used it that I should never go past med. heat. I naturally always set it to high and go for it. If I would have done it with this iron, I would have fried my hair.
Also I love using Biosilk with this iron. It just puts a nice finish to your hair.

well you need a comb to get better and straighter results like put comb through the hair then hold it at the bottom and go over it with the flat iron this process will not only flatten the frizz but it will help it get straighter by detangling it
Do not straighten hair while you have your hair wet or with hairspray or products like hairspray it may cause burnt hair or loss of hair
Hair's not completely straight after straightening. submitted by: Katie., Wed Oct 05 2005

It's very simple if you clip your hair up and straighten small sections at a time. Then you clip the straight hair back with a different hair clip. This ensures that you get every hair straightened. This straightener can straighten any thick amount of hair but it's not totally straight, so don't try to straighten too much hair at one time.
