Before using the CHI always put silk solution and then take a thin piece of hair and brush it and the put hair spray in that piece then go over it with the CHI . It always works for me.

proper hair care

First wash your hair and use either silk therapy or silk infusion, leave in, dry your hair. Before you CHI, use more silk therapy,(dime size) when you use the iron the moisture will be locked into the hair.When you see steam coming off, that is just the excess moisture leaving your hair from the silk therapy.Thin sections is the key to straight hair. Silk therapy- gotta have it!! Remember this iron is to be used in a quick motion. Any heat will damage your hair if you do not take care of it. I've had mine for 4 years and no problems.

Curls

I have attended a few hair shows and saw a few of Farouk's presentations. They showed that you can also curl with the CHI. Just wrap some of your hair around an object (like a pencil or something) and just run the straightener over it. When you remove the object you have a curl. I never would have thought to use a STRAIGHTENER to CURL!

It also helps if you use the Biosilk from Farouk also. It's a clear liquid. It makes your hair smell great and keeps it shiny all day!

using the chi

when using the chi, use small sections, run the flat iron through the hair at a faster pace then you would a cheap iron and here is the key: use a comb following the iron, not a wide tooth comb or a brush. using the comb helps get your hair as straight as possible.

Wait for it to get hot before using... but not too hot!

Wait for it to get hot before using... but not too hot! If its too hot it seems like it will burn your hair -- even with the covering (that you pay $120 for!) it gets hot!

Use a serum

For those of you that are not familiar with CHI iron, it will obviously damage your hair if you don't use a serum before use. So use a serum and take care of it!

To prevent hair damage from the heat, use flat iron spray to protect the hair like Biosilk or Lustrasilk Smooth Ends Leave In Conditioner.
