Ok here's what I do, and it WORKS!! I have thick curly hair
1. Wash my hair and let it dry naturally. (sometimes I put mousse on it and let it dry, both have similar results) 2. Brush out the curls a section at a time. 3. Apply CHI Thermal Silk to each section (a pea size amount for small sections, and a little mor for larger sections). 4. Run the CHI iron through it slowly a few times. 5. Once ALL my hair is straightened, I apply a little bit more CHI Thermal Silk and TAADAA!!!!
I hope it works for you too!

Do not attempt to straighten your hair when it's even slightly damp. If you let it air dry make sure the roots are dry before you start straightening.

For all my beautiful black butterflies... This is my routine for chi-ing my hair
1. wash with Matrix Sleek 2. condition with Matrix Sleek 3. Apply Chi thermal silk 4. blow dri with a paddle brush 5. apply bio- silk 6. start to chi.. but i use the paddle brush while i straighten my hair. Take the paddle brush and put it to the roots of my hair, then use the Chi iron. This helps get my ends supper straight..
hope this helps

IF you want to straighten your hair always or most of the time put on Bio Silk Silk Therapy that prevents the hair from being damaged. But remeber not to put too much on because it makes your hair greasy. If you want to use the straightner then use it not more than once in a week or two weeks. Trust me you will regret it.

If you have a CHI hair straightner always put you hair in layers before using this makes it much faster to straighten hair because you have little bits of hair which you can see and never ever keep running over your hair 5 times or more. If it doesnt go straight then make sure your going slowly down with the straightner.
Improper Use of CHI damages your hair- protect your hair! submitted by: Heather, Sun Feb 26 2006

To all of the reviewers of the CHI flatiron that are complaining about your hair being fried from too much use: Are you using any type of protectant cream or product before using the flatiron? My hair was severely damaged within the first month of using my CHI but once I had a visit with my stylist she told me I should never use this product without protecting my hair first! I started using Aveda's Universal Styling Cream before straightening my hair and my hair has never been healthier- even with daily flatiron use. Ask your stylist which product is best for your hair type!! With proper use these flatirons should not cause your hair to fry like that!

you should use products that don't have alcohol because the alcohol drys out your hair! the salon i went to said that super skinny (?) by paul mitchell is what you should use because although it has alcohol, it's not bad as other products
also! the chi is "the best" because it is all ceramic-- others are just coated!

African American Ladies, The CHI works GREAT on our hair. All of the beautians in my shop use the CHI.
With our hair type you really only have to CHI your hair after you shampoo it. After a shampoo, comb it down and sit under a hood dryer until it is dry. Then apply the Bio-silk Part in small sections and run the CHI through each peice. Finish off with MIZANI oil sheen (it is very light and a GREAT shine) and comb.
If you wrap it and tie it up with a due rag every night it will last you until it's time for your next shampoo.
P.S. Through out the week you can use a regular flat iron that's not as hot, to avoid heat damage, if you need a little bump here and there.
