Mechanical quality is lacking

After less than a year, my first CHI just stopped working: No heat, no power, no outer visible signs of breakage. So I bought another CHI 1" iron. Less than 6 months, and the "on/off" switch breaks off. While working the iron is fine and always did a great job. But you can have the greatest design for anything, but if the mechanics that make it work are no good, then what good is the final product?

I just recieved my chi today and i am amazed with how great it works i am a huge fan of straightening my hair, my old conair and revlon ones cannot compare. i suggest if you have thick wavy hair (like me) and your looking for a great flat iron , chi is the way to go!
also i think the best way to buy it is on folica , it saved me so much mopre money then my local salons would have!

Ok I have owned a CHI for almost two years now and i have extreemly fine and thin hair! If you learn how to use it right its perfect. BUT if you have thin hair you NEED to use a serum with it. And run it through quick not over the same spot three times slowly. But honestly nothing compairs. NOTHING!

omg! i just got this straghtner today and my hair was fried because of the cheep drugstore ones but i used the chi (of course with the chi guard!) and my hair is so shiny and healthy i love chi and will never get anything else!

best straightner in the world !! mine lasted 3 years and the only reason it broke was because i used in Europe and it blow out. I am definitely buying another one. With a chi u didn need to use any other products on your hair!! i love it and i swear by it !!!

I bought my Chi in 9th grade. I'm now a junior in college and It just died. I guess after 6 years it had to happen, I'm surprised there are a few that have broken within 6 months. I definitely had a great experience with mine, I absolutely loved this product and I'm ready to buy my next one. If you TAKE CARE OF IT, it will last a good, long time and do wonders on any type of hair. However, I have been reading about the SEDU hair straightener and I might try it, seeing such good reviews. I'm surprised CHI has fallen to 6th on the list, and I just hope I'm not disappointed by the Sedu.

i have been looking for a very good working straightener for over a year and i came across this straightener at the mall. a lady was telling me everything about it and i asked her if she coould try it on my hair. the second i saw the results i just knew i had to buy it. it was the straightest ive ever seen my hair EVER. and i am completely obsessed with having straight hair so if your looking for a good straightener im telling you, pick this one.

I got the Chi last week and I love it! I wish it wasn't as expensive but it was worth it. My hair is a bit wavy so it works well. I guess the quality of the results is different for each person, but compared to my drug store straightener, this thing is a miracle!

i bought a chi last year right before school started i loved it. however 3months after i had it it started messing up you could hear it on the inside (mechanical) there was something wrong and then it stopped working. I figured out you have to mess with the cord some to get it to turn back on. but after that its not as hot. here a year later im gonna give it a second chance and buy a new one. hopefully this one will not mess up. i know quite a few people who have it and they absolutly love it. and theres still hasnt messed up. so im gonna try it one more time!

I purchased the CHI flat iron in late 2003. To this day, I have had 2 major problems with the iron not functioning. About 2 years ago, the rotating cord split causing the iron to stop working so I got it fixed. About 2 weeks ago, when I went to use the iron, it would turn off when I shifted the iron to move with my hair causing the heat to decrease. Although, this iron did get very hot and did straighten my semi wavy hair, I wish it lasted longer for the $260 I paid for it. Now, I’m considering buying Solia since there is an extensive amount of excellent reviews posted. I appreciate all those who took the time to post their comments; it has helped to narrow my search.

Well from what i`ve heard and read this particular straightener does GREAT on curly wavy or REALLY frizzy hair...Obviously if it does so good on that type of hair its not going to be any help to somebody with thin hair.
You people with thin hair got it good...You can get a cheap straightener from wal-mart. Us with THICK CURLY hair have to buy a $150 dollar one off the internet. BE GLAD!!

The CHI Original flatiron is amazing! I have curly, curly hair and the only way I could get it straight was to go to the salon and spend $50-60 to have it professionally straightened. Traditional irons didn't work and I'd tried many of them. I gave up on having silky straight hair everyday because I couldn't afford it. Then my friend got a CHI and she told me all about it. She loved hers so much she made me try it out so I could see for myself. And I loved it! I ordered mine the very next day! Thank you for finally making a product that gives me salon quality results every time I use it.

My sister and I both received CHI straighteners as Christmas presents. Within 6 months, both products had mechanical issues and failed to work. My sister's straightener fell apart into two pieces and the cord on my straightener pulls out of the back of the product. Both products no longer work after 6 months of normal use. When working, the straightener did an excellent job. However this product was not worth the money for 6 months use.

I have 2 Chi's for each of my girls. It's true about what your hair type is. If you have thin hair, watch out. If you have wavy, it's good. If you have tight curly Q's well you do have to work at it. Other than that, it works great.

I researched flat irons a lot and asked my friends about the different brands out there before I bought one myself. I spent $130 on mine and 3 months later the iron started to act up and eventually stopped turning on. I wasn't totally surprised though because I had read earlier reviews about how this problem is a reoccurring with the Chi. Fortunately, my iron was still under warranty and all I had to do was send it in along with the original proof of purchase and 2 1/2 later Farouk Systems sent me a new one! Despite the electrical problem they Chi works great in whatever style I want to do my hair. I have naturally wavy hair and I've straightened and curled my hair with the Chi! I have medium length hair and it takes me only 10 mins with the Chi to do my hair compared to cheaper brands.
