I have had the CHI iron for about two months now,and I absoluteley love it. Its great for striaghtening, and you can also curl with it too. I ve read alot of bad reviews, but therye complaining about it breaking within a few months. The reason why therye irons are breaking is because they are wrapping the cord around it to keep it neater. Wrapping the cord around your iron damages the electrical current, causing the CHI to stop working. Make sure you use heat protection products so you can get smooth shiny hair. I reccomend the CHI.

I had long, thick, and wavy hair. It was really pretty long and I wish I had it back. Though one day after about 3 years of having it that way, i decided to chop it off to a little above shoulder length. I really liked the way the girl that cuts my hair had it styled, though it was almost impossible for me to get it back that way with the straighteners I had and had bought. It was completely out of the question to wear it down being so thick and wavy. So I had to make do with my hot tools and conair straighteners I had. I would get it the best I could and then put it in a ponytail because otherwise my hair was a mess. This went on for like 2 months before I finally broke down and flat out asked my hair dresser what iron she had used on my hair that day. of course she told me it was the chi and that if I was going to buy it, to buy the original 1 inch. so i got online [here] and ordered one. i got it and used it immediatly. I received the same results the day my hair dresser had originally cut my hair. i will NEVER own a different brand than this one here. :)
mine still works...even after dropping it in water..

I bought my chi about 5 yrs. ago for 150$$. It has been the best investment ever made. I also dropped my chi in water and it still worked. I too have thick wavy mixed hair and I love love this product. Chi has also told me if it ever broke they would send me another one free of charge. I will continue using it until i no longer need to..

im a hair dresser in ny and its the only flat iron i will use. it provids the right amount of heat to the hair with out causing damage. ive had mine for about 5 yrs and the plates still look brand new and i use it just about everyday. everyone in my salon uses it and we all recomend it to our customers. ive read some of these reviews and i believe these people are experiencing failures with their chis because they arent useing it correctly maybe or they bought it from a non proffesional store so the could be a knock off. all i know is i love mine and forever will support this product.

I had my chi for a year and it was the best straightener I have ever had. But it only lasted for a year! It still had a warranty on it because it hadn't been quite a year so Chi sent me a new one. It has been just under a year now and that one has stopped working as well. I treated my Chi like it was a delicate object NO abuse what so ever!!!! It sat on my bathroom counter or was put away under the counter. Not really worth the money! Unless $150 a year on straighteners is in your budget!

not as great as you think.
btw: i have wavy/frizzy-ish hair. anddddd...CHI doesnt work with it:]
and my CHI broke after 1year!!!
dont spend your money on it!

I've had my 1.5" CHI for over 4 years, and it's still working great. People who complain about it breaking too soon are NOT properly caring for their CHI. This is an investment product, do NOT treat it poorly and it will last forever! NEVER wrap the cord around the straightener, or any appliance/hair tool for that matter - it only causes damage to the cord and it's abilities to send a proper electrical. I live on the Gulf Coast in Texas where the humidity is 100% every day of the year. I've never had problems with frizz after getting a CHI, but I recommend using the CHI silk infusion on damp hair only. I put mine in before blow drying, and then lightly mist with the CHI heat spray stuff. Putting the silk infusion on dry hair after you've straightened it will only cause your hair to become super greasy.
CHI is a great product, so take care of it! All the women in my family and most of my friends have one and truly love it. I've never had a complaint in over 4 years!
it was alright......im glad i tried a different brand

The Chi didnt work as well as i expected it to be.I read all these really good reviews, but i didnt read the bad ones. it broke in one month, and it would pull my hair every once in a while. My aunt is a hair dresser and she tells me how her customers perfer the solia hair strigntner over the chi, and solia gave better results.im glad i moved on to solia, it is way better in quality and strightned my hair faster. I dont recomend this product, unless you want to spend $70 every other month. If you do buy it, take care of it and dont use it every day or it will burn your hair really bad even if you put heat protection on it. Sorry chi

I have been very happy with my flat iron I have had it about 15 months, until the last few weeks it seems to be shorting out. The warranty states if you bought it on line the warranty is void. I couldnt believe it!! I depend on this product every day and have natural very very curly hair. This morning my husband took it apart and found the defect in the contact for the swival cord. (Iam very thankful he's a engineer and could fix it)However, I would think the mfg. could improve their process to ensure the product last much longer!! I hope it lasts awhile longer.
A chi that dies :(

If your Chi stops working within a years time chi will replace your flat iron as long as you keep the box. I had a client who had one and the heating element died on it she sent it to chi and they had a new one back to her within a 2 weeks period! If it is over a year Chi will still refurbish your iron if it is salvageable for a lower price than buying a new one. With my salon experiences they have been great about helping out people with chi problems! BTW If you are going to buy a chi please do not waste money on the colored one. The chi original is the best and those designer Chi's fall apart and don't get as hot. My chi lasted 4 years of proffesional salon use which means it is on all day 5 days a weeks and I only had to buy a new one becuase I dropped it (many times before but this was the last straw i guess, lol) and it broke :( Folica does have the best prices for the chi that I have found.

I bought a brand new chi last may and payed 120 for it at the store in the mall. By October it wouldn't stay on for longer than 5 mins. This is not my first chi have been using them for about 5 years, and everyone i have bought has done the same thing: DIES! They short out and don't even turn on, i have 5 broken chi's in my house. WORTHLESS! never again will i buy another chi and don't think you should either
LOVE IT!!!

At first I thought the Chi was another in now out later products. However, I once used my friends Chi and I LOVED IT! I LOVE MY CHI and could NEVER live without it. I take it everywhere! Before it would take me about 20 mins to straighten, now it only takes like 10 mins. However, since you can’t adjust the heat I recommend using a thermal protector. Also, watch your ears and neck. I think I just about burned the whole top layer of skin off on my first week. This iron gets hot REALLY fast (another great thing.) The only bad thing is that I have not been able to curl with it. I must have youtubed for like 2 hours trying different tricks and still could not get it to curl my hair. It leaves weird lifeless, flat, funky looking curls…definitely not like the girls on youtube. I had to spray my hair with water then go over it again with the iron so that it would go flat again otherwise it would not flatten. If you travel I recommend the hot pouch because you can straighten and then throw it back in your luggage when traveling or put it away right after use and it also offers extra protection from damage. If you are anything like me and always on the run you will love having the pouch because you don’t have to wait for it to cool to put away. I love my Chi it easily and quickly flips my hair out and it leaves my hair feeling soft and silky. I have yet to find a better flat iron. I recommend it!!

No wonder this thing only comes with a one year warranty...it breaks after a year.
I have been having problems getting my straightener to turn on since about December...around the 1 year mark since I've had it and now it won't turn on at all.
At $80 this thing should last a life time. Don't waste your money!

my CHI worked for about 8 months but it recently died! i love it sooo much! im half black so i have really coarse hair but it made it nice and shiny and straight or i could make amazing waves & curls. The thing is I don't want to have to buy a new one every couple months! :(

Hey, I'm going to tell you why I love this Chi so much.
So I have relaxed hair, so easy to straighten right?
WRONG.
Nothing at all works to straighten or curl my hair, it's very annoying,
I decided why not try this one? 30 day money back, and what not.
4 years later and I'm still straightening my hair perfectly with it!!
It gets my hair pin straight and I adore it.
(Though heat spray is a must)
If you are thinking about getting this, then do. Best investment I've made, and I've made a lot!
hair breakage

my hair prior to the use of this product was very healthy despite the fact that i straighten it constantly. i purchased this almost a month ago and the results are already making me near frantic ! i have so many split ends that i would never know where to begin ! it is also making my hair much thinner. . . and i started out with rather thin hair. . . therefore, it's taking away the strength of my hair. i use the infusion stuff to protect my hair but this obviously is not working !
the only thing that i can say about the straightener that is good is it look like one less stroke to straighten each section of hair on my head.
i am actually debating on whether to return it or maybe keep it and see if there is some other hair protecting stuff that i can get because these results are making me furious.
i think i need to go cut off a good 3 inches to stop my hair from splitting to the root.
i really cannot remember the last time that i had split ends . . . before the use of this chi.
i had minor hair breakage before but it has become really excessive.
i don't recommend it !
but the pouch is quite handy !
Great for African Americans with Natural and Relaxed Hair.

I have natural hair and the CHI works very well with it. Im usually have to use a hot comba nd then flat iron to get my hair straight. But I can use the CHI straight after I blow dry and my hair flowing and has lots of body. I would recommend it to anyone.

My daughter is bi-racial and I have to say she does not have the easiest hair to maintain. I have bought the maxi-glide, conair flat iron, and so many others. My hair dresser suggested that I buy a chi so I decided I would go ahead and break down a pay the cost for one. I have say "What a difference". I just received my CHI last week -gave my daughter a perm and used the CHI to straighten it out. My daughter and I could not believe the difference this product made. I flat ironed her hair on Sunday, 1/4/09 and here it is 1/8/09 and it is still straight. We live in an area where weather is a challenge. The winters are long and the summers are very humid. This product really works. Thank you Folica for the wonderful products you have. Just to let those of you know this was my first purchase and believe me I will be buying more items for our hair care needs.
Definitley not worth it... made my hair look like hay.

I decided to buy a Chi, because of all the good reviews.
I was so excited when I got it, I put Chi Iron guard and straightened my hair. It made it look like hay. LIKE HAY! it was horrible.
I'm going to save up and buy a Sedu Revoloution... but thanks to this stupid thing I wasted most of my money.
The only reason I gave 2 stars was because it heats up really fast and does make it straight sometimes, but I know there is way way better out there.
