i bought a chi from folica.com and it was only $90 plus free shipping.. cant get a better deal than that :)

I loved my first Chi, which I bought 2 years ago. I had crazy curly hair, and it helped me cope with my hair and make it straight. But then one day about 3 months later, my Chi stopped working. It never turned on again. It didnt have a reset button either.
I took it back to the salon and they refunded me part of the price and I bought another, which had a reset button. I've had that one for EXACTLY one year now, and it has broken too.
It turns off when I am in the middle of using it, and sometimes it won't turn on at all. I have tried pushing the reset button and waiting, unplugging and replugging..all that I can think of. Sometimes it will fix it, and turn back on temporarily(and then turn off again), but sometimes it won't.
I love the effectiveness of the Chi, but it is terribly unreliable. I'm never buying one again.
Broken Cord

I've had two of these in the past 3 years, both of them had the cords break. If yours only heats up when you hold it just right it is because the wires in the cord have broken apart. When it works this iron does a nice job, but it's too expensive to break so easily.

i got the chi about 8 months ago. i have think, very wavy, long hair. this chi i find is not big enough for my type of hair. it heats up quickly. but i find an hour after striatening my hair my ends flip and my hair curls up a bit. At the begining the chi heated up fast and now its a bit slower but i dont mind that. but for someone with my type of hair, i would NOT reccomend the chi but rather a bigger iron, such as the Hai 2, which i am considering to purchase soon

I love my new chi hair straightener. I have gone through about three cheaper ones in the past few years that have just fallen apart and I can tell that the Chi will last me a long time. It heats up fast and it only takes me 5 minutes to do my hair instead of 15 with my last straightener. Thank You FOLICA!!! Great product...great price!

For the past 4 years, I have been a faithful CHI user. I live in Tampa, where the temperature and the humidity usually match (95 degrees, 95%). I have THICK, curly hair and no flat iron has ever straightened my hair like the CHI. Even in this sauna of a city, my hair stays straight and shiny, something no non-ceramic flat iron has ever been able to do. So, why am I only given it 3 stars if it so wonderful? Because they simply don't seem built to last. Yesterday, my second CHI's electrical cord became loose, and now it won't stay on. It comes on, but as soon as the cord is moved, it turns off, then turns back on. I almost cried! My first CHI died when the plates became loose. Now I treat my flat irons well. I don't drop them and I don't pull on the cord (lord knows the cord is long enough), so I don't know why a $100 flat iron would die in 2 years. For that reason, I won't buy a third unless I absolutely positively cannot find another one that works as good. The search is on! If you buy one, it will work--your hair will be straight, shiny, and beautiful. Just know that the CHI does not seem built to last and that in a couple of years, you will buy another one.

My chi burnt out after about 6 months. I called Folica and there was some confusion at first on who would honor the warrenty. But Folica told me to send it back w/about $10 and in a little more than 2 weeks, I got my new chi. I've missed it so. Good product and good company. Thanks.

I LOVE this product! I wish I knew about it in High School. It turns my natural kinky hair silky straight. Totally worth it!

I ordered the Chi ceramic flat iron because when I went to have my hair highlighted and styled, I told my hairdresser I wanted it straightened. She used her CHI flat iron, and I have never had anyone straighten my hair so quickly and have it be so smooth and silky. I was so impressed, I asked her what she was using, and once she told me, I went home and researched the web trying to find the cheapest price. And as an added bonus I got the heat proof pouch. I love my CHI flat iron. Its great.

I have had my Chi for almost three years and all of a sudden it doesnt get hot anymore. It takes twice as long to get it straight and it really does not last long either. Very disappointed in the Chi since so many people recommened it. I wont buy another one again.:(

The Chi hair straightener is awesome. It heats quickly, works well, and the frizzies stay away all day. I highly recommend this product!

It is one of the best straight irons I've seen in years. Oh, and one thing about the breaking problem try not to drop it DUH. I recommend the CHI for eveyone.

Bought two of these for my daughters. Couldn't beat the price - much cheaper than at local stores! The girls love their chi - what a difference! Folica is our new favorite place!

I originally purchased a cheap flat iron from a department store and was very disappointed. Then my mother-in-law used the original ceramic CHI flat iron on me and the difference was amazing. The CHI flat iron made my hair smoother and flatter. As soon as we got home, I went online and purchased one of my very own. I am extremely happy with how well it works and I love that it doesn't turn itself off until I am ready to turn it off.

the chi straightener is the best investment i've ever made. I have extremely curly hair and it works wonders. I have had mine for 3 years and just yesterday it fell on the ground and the ceramic plates fell out of it. I am now in the process of buying a new one because i realized how much i miss it already. I HIGHLY encourage buying a chi, even if you are doubting its quality.
My friends all have one as well and we spread out using every plug in the house to use our own all at once. It is great for doing small curls/waves as well, and styling bangs.
just buy it, its sooooo worth it.

The CHI is a really good straightener. Its really hatrd for me to find a good straightner. My hair is kinda thick and kind wavy and i tried everything i could to get my hair nice and straight..I got razor cuts i got it chemicaly straightened and nothing worked better than the CHI!! it rocks and I think everyone should have one!!!!

We were traveling to visit family when I realized that I forgot my flat iron. I called my sister-in-law to see if she had one. She did. I used it and I absolutely loved it. As soon as I got home I ordered it. I have short, thick, course hair and my daughter has thin, fine hair; it works great on both of our hair. I could not believe the differences in different flat irons. I can't wait until it comes in.

I am very happy with my new straightner. I have wavy hair and with the iron I now have pretty straight hair and get lots of compliments on my hair now.
Thank you and I would recommend it to anyone, I would not recommend any cheap store bought ones because they tend to damage hair from my experience.

I am not so sure how this hair straightener pulled it off to be one of the top best sellers. I have been using this iron for less than 3 months and within the first use, my hair did NOT do ANYTHING the product described it would do. It didn't result in fine, silky, smooth, straight hair..but instead my hair felt limp and dry. At first i thought "well okay.. must be because i haven't showered and conditioned yet" So the next morning i got up to shower and got ready for school. I made sure to use extra conditioner and a moisturizing cream afterwards too. But...Before i go on, i should mention that i have not too thick not too fine shoulder length hair. It's not wavy or hard to manage like some people either, so why didn't the iron do it's job? I don't know! I am very frustrated because i expected something more. Maybe a little too much? I mean a $20 flat iron at the drugstore would have probably done less damage to my hair with an increase amount of time. The thing is.. I even researched many websites(to compare prices and reviews) and once i saw all these rave reviews and high ratings, i was convinced and had to get the flat iron. Now im stuck with this piece of junk and my parents won't get me a new one because i already wasted my money on the farouk chi! I just wished i was a little more patient and actually went to the salon and asked for PROFESSIONAL tips, but instead i jumped right into the wrath of soceity; having perfect and beautiful locks. Btw, I suggest buying a straigtener with FULL 100% CERAMIC plates. Farouk chi may seem like they got the best ceramic plates on the market but.. On the instruction manual it has a picture pointing directly to the plates .. "coated ceramic plate iron" which will not only ruin and damage your hair, but will result in loss of money and time.
P.S - Since this iron does not have temperature settings, the outside tends to get very hot since it is pressure sensitve. Another con.
