CHI flat irons are some of the best heat styling tools available. They have neutralizing ions, which help reduce frizz and protect against humidity. I don't know why people end up needing a new after 6 months but swear they are not doing anything wrong... They are NOT caring for it correctly if they need to replace it that often. I've had mine for almost 3 years now, and it works the same as it always has. If you wrap the cord around the flat iron when it's not in use, that causes shorts. You are NEVER supposed to do that. Not even loosely. Most people end up doing that at some point or another, and that's why they end up destroying their irons unintentionally and unknowingly.

I've added a couple pictures of some clients I've had for cuts, color, highlighting, lowlighting, etc... And flat ironing with a CHI iron. The style in the first picture was done with a CHI iron, not a curling iron. The second picture is just someone's hair completely straight, flat ironed with the CHI.

I have very very wavy/curly/frizzy Mexican Hair haha thats the best way to put it. This Iron didn't do very good when I had long hair I live in Arkansas (humidity capital of the world I swear) and so my hair would look AWESOME inside and the minute I stepped outside it would just turn into a big ball of frizz and no matter how much product I put in my hair it would still frizz out. When I got my hair cut off (from the middle of my back to a 1/2 inch below my chin or so) it worked wonders I think that was partially due to the hair cut etc. I don't have bad hair, my stylist always goes on and on about my beautiful, healthy, black hair but it didn't do much for frizz. Over thanksgiving I was cooking dinner and straightening my hair inbetween and I left it on for about 20-25 minutes and it MELTED. I don't know about you but I don't think that should have messed it up - it normally took my short hair 15 minutes to get all nice and straight. My brother tried to fix it but it was pretty much runied and I haven't bought another one since - when he opened it up he said it looked pretty cheap. Sorry for the goofy pictures but its all I could find, the first one is of my natural frizzy curly hair and the second one is straightened with the chi and if you look you can still see how poofy/frizzy my hair is at the bottom.

Chi is the BEST Flat Iron on the market. The others can't compare. Hair looks professionally done every time! Cost on your website beats the retail stores. Won't go back to the any other irons.

I ordered it in october and loved it. I am quite afraid of it breaking though, i've read some "this thing breaks reviews" and I rely on this thing!
It takes me about 25 minutes to straighten my insanely curly shoulder blade length hair. It does leave my hair a tad frizzy with some fly aways but that is easily fixed with the Chi Silk Infusion Serum and Sebastian Threads gel (amazing go get it!!!) The only thing though is sometimes it makes my bangs feel a little greasy but that might just be my imagination ;) Love the product and I love how lightweight and thin it is.

First of all, let me say that NO ONE should ever buy a cheap drug store flat iron. They'll destroy ANY kind of hair. People w/thin hair are NOT blessed. My sister has incredibly thin hair and so does my best friend. It may SEEM like it makes styling easier, but they have just as many problems as we do with our thick hair. That said, I LOVE Chi flat irons. Everyone should own one. My hair dresser has three of them and she's used all of them on my hair SEVERAL times. She could straighten it comepletely in about 10-15 minutes, and my hair was down to my rear end! I just recently got it all chopped off. The Chi makes it so easy to flip out my ends, straighten it comepletely flat, or even give my crown some height when I need it. I had an "upper scale" department store model that I paid almost $70 for that did "OK", but after years of wishing I had a Chi, I'm finally biting the bullet and buying one for myself. My old one cost me a lot of extra money getting my hair trimmed more often because of the damage, and that's WITH a thermal styling spray, which you should ALWAYS use. I wouldn't buy anything other than the Chi. I've used other stylists who've used other irons and I prefer the results I get when my stylist uses her Chi. Everything you buy has the potential to malfunction. I'm the queen of complaining. I've learned that calling or writing to the company can go a long way, or even just saving your receipt and speaking to the manager in the store where you buy things can help. It doesn't hurt to try. Also, I always check to see if things have a warranty. I called my stylist today. It costs the salons $120+ to order this model and have it shipped to them and they get a stylist's discount! It's worth it to buy one here, I think. I can't wait until mine arrives!!! The first pic was a couple years ago. That's my natural curl. The second pic was the day I had my hair cut and straightened with my stylist's Chi.

Product Rating: 3 Failed to Impress....
Reviewer: Anonymous   Tue Jul 17 2007

A few years ago, I would've been thrilled to have this straightener. However, my Chi failed to impress me.

I used to own a Sedu and I loved it. I used it everyday on my thick very curly hair and it never damaged and always stayed smooth and straight. After going through three Wal-Mart straighteners it was a miracle. Then when it broke after two years of use, my mother ordered me this Chi straightener.

It seems to do a fairly good job at first, but it takes all of the volume out of my hair. Even worse, it takes me ten minutes longer than my Sedu did, my hair ALWAYS begins to curl just fifteen minutes after I straighten it even with a generous amount of product (touch-ups are little help), and my hair tends to feel slightly damaged after each use.

I gave Chi a chance but I think I'm ready to go back to my Sedu. It's an okay straightener, but it's no miracle.

I recently went on a cruise and left my chi iron. I was so upset when I realized what I had done. I have never felt so much withdrawal from the loss of a hair styler. :) I have naturally curly hair and this iron is the only one that can straighten my hair to my liking. I am purchasing the original chi value pack from the website right after this review. I promise you won't be disappointed and you will be a "CHI ADDICT" for life if you purchase one!

I love this product, but mine doesn't have a reset button it just comes as a switch, I am afraid if it stops working then I won't even be able to restart.
I use the Chi straigtner with the biosilk serum it works great and I love the way my hair smells. You should only buy this product if you have thick/coarse/curly hair because it heats up very well.
If you have thin hair any more wal-mart brand would do. Buying the Chi will only make your hair thinner and burnt.

Product Rating: 5 These things last forever!
Reviewer: A from Texas  Tue Jun 02 2009

I've had my 1.5" CHI for over 4 years, and it's still working great. People who complain about it breaking too soon are NOT properly caring for their CHI. This is an investment product, do NOT treat it poorly and it will last forever! NEVER wrap the cord around the straightener, or any appliance/hair tool for that matter - it only causes damage to the cord and it's abilities to send a proper electrical. I live on the Gulf Coast in Texas where the humidity is 100% every day of the year. I've never had problems with frizz after getting a CHI, but I recommend using the CHI silk infusion on damp hair only. I put mine in before blow drying, and then lightly mist with the CHI heat spray stuff. Putting the silk infusion on dry hair after you've straightened it will only cause your hair to become super greasy.

CHI is a great product, so take care of it! All the women in my family and most of my friends have one and truly love it. I've never had a complaint in over 4 years!

The Chi didnt work as well as i expected it to be.I read all these really good reviews, but i didnt read the bad ones. it broke in one month, and it would pull my hair every once in a while. My aunt is a hair dresser and she tells me how her customers perfer the solia hair strigntner over the chi, and solia gave better results.im glad i moved on to solia, it is way better in quality and strightned my hair faster. I dont recomend this product, unless you want to spend $70 every other month. If you do buy it, take care of it and dont use it every day or it will burn your hair really bad even if you put heat protection on it. Sorry chi

I have been very happy with my flat iron I have had it about 15 months, until the last few weeks it seems to be shorting out. The warranty states if you bought it on line the warranty is void. I couldnt believe it!! I depend on this product every day and have natural very very curly hair. This morning my husband took it apart and found the defect in the contact for the swival cord. (Iam very thankful he's a engineer and could fix it)However, I would think the mfg. could improve their process to ensure the product last much longer!! I hope it lasts awhile longer.

Reviewer: Amanda from Florida  Thu Apr 30 2009

If your Chi stops working within a years time chi will replace your flat iron as long as you keep the box. I had a client who had one and the heating element died on it she sent it to chi and they had a new one back to her within a 2 weeks period! If it is over a year Chi will still refurbish your iron if it is salvageable for a lower price than buying a new one. With my salon experiences they have been great about helping out people with chi problems! BTW If you are going to buy a chi please do not waste money on the colored one. The chi original is the best and those designer Chi's fall apart and don't get as hot. My chi lasted 4 years of proffesional salon use which means it is on all day 5 days a weeks and I only had to buy a new one becuase I dropped it (many times before but this was the last straw i guess, lol) and it broke :( Folica does have the best prices for the chi that I have found.

I bought a brand new chi last may and payed 120 for it at the store in the mall. By October it wouldn't stay on for longer than 5 mins. This is not my first chi have been using them for about 5 years, and everyone i have bought has done the same thing: DIES! They short out and don't even turn on, i have 5 broken chi's in my house. WORTHLESS! never again will i buy another chi and don't think you should either

Product Rating: 5 LOVE IT!!!
Reviewer: VBarker from Phoenix, AZ   Tue Apr 14 2009

At first I thought the Chi was another in now out later products. However, I once used my friends Chi and I LOVED IT! I LOVE MY CHI and could NEVER live without it. I take it everywhere! Before it would take me about 20 mins to straighten, now it only takes like 10 mins. However, since you can’t adjust the heat I recommend using a thermal protector. Also, watch your ears and neck. I think I just about burned the whole top layer of skin off on my first week. This iron gets hot REALLY fast (another great thing.) The only bad thing is that I have not been able to curl with it. I must have youtubed for like 2 hours trying different tricks and still could not get it to curl my hair. It leaves weird lifeless, flat, funky looking curls…definitely not like the girls on youtube. I had to spray my hair with water then go over it again with the iron so that it would go flat again otherwise it would not flatten. If you travel I recommend the hot pouch because you can straighten and then throw it back in your luggage when traveling or put it away right after use and it also offers extra protection from damage. If you are anything like me and always on the run you will love having the pouch because you don’t have to wait for it to cool to put away. I love my Chi it easily and quickly flips my hair out and it leaves my hair feeling soft and silky. I have yet to find a better flat iron. I recommend it!!

No wonder this thing only comes with a one year warranty...it breaks after a year.
I have been having problems getting my straightener to turn on since about December...around the 1 year mark since I've had it and now it won't turn on at all.
At $80 this thing should last a life time. Don't waste your money!

my CHI worked for about 8 months but it recently died! i love it sooo much! im half black so i have really coarse hair but it made it nice and shiny and straight or i could make amazing waves & curls. The thing is I don't want to have to buy a new one every couple months! :(
