I absolutely love my chi!! It's the best! It has cut my getting ready time in half!

Product Rating: 4 I love the performance, but not the ending...

OMG!!! I've had my chi for 4 years now, and it still works great!!! It heats up excellent, and it leaves my hair beautiful and straight!

The only thing wrong with it is...the year warranty goes out and it CONVENIENTLY breaks right afterward! First, it started randomly shutting off. I thought it was the cord, but turns out it was the on-off switch--which snapped off right after I found out the problem! So, I just used some tape to hold it in place and keep it on!! Innovation!

Later, one of the plates came unglued and now hangs on by two wires...talk about dangerous!! It likes to snag my hair every now and then...

So, if you are reading this and wondering whether to buy it or not...it depends. IT works great! Its just not very durable after the warranty runs out...I like it, but the Solia seems to be much more durable, but does not work quite as well as the Chi (found out from ratings & reviews).

Product Rating: 4 Chi is good but not great

I have had 2 CHI Irons now and the same thing happened with both. I am very happy with the way it works, if you use it properly you will see the best results. The only complaint I have is the durability. After 2 years on both Irons the cord gets shorted out near the top where it connects to the Iron. For the price of a chi you would think they would last longer...

Product Rating: 2 Fried Hair

I purchased the CHI iron but I was very disappointed and I returned it. The first time I used the CHI flat iron, it fried my hair. It was awful. My hair smelled like it had been charred after using the product the first time. I will stick to my Sedu flat iron.

Product Rating: 5 Love it! Great investment!!

I've been using flat irons for about 6 years now and have tried several brands. I started with Wal-Mart cheap irons and they constantly caught and ripped out my hair. I then bought the Helen of Troy brand because a friend recommended it to me. They worked great for about 1-2 years then the plates would start losing heat. I was spending $40+ every 1-2 years. Since I got my Chi I have been so happy! It does wonders for my hair, and takes half the time to flat iron than the other irons I've used. I have fine hair, so I use a heat protectorant with the iron and my hair stays healthy and smooth. It's worth the price! (Especially with the free pouch) :)

Product Rating: 2 Not durable!!!!!
Reviewer: Carminkri   Fri Mar 03 2006

I was very happy with the performance of the CHI, however, it lasted 3 days. I used it one morning, then went to use it later that day on my daughter, and nothing! Thank goodness Folica was awesome about recommending one that was more durable. I sent a complaint to CHI about the durability, mind you I never dropped it or anything. I put it in the pouch after each use, didn't wrap the cord around it or anything. I was told by CHI that this was new and improved (without the safety plug) however, I would say that it is not.

This does not have the safety plug, therefore, if it needs "reset" there is no way to do this. So, I am returning my chi, and have already replaced it with a SEDU. I love my SEDU, it was worth the price, plus the reassurance of durabilty, AND it has the safety plug feature.

I have had my Chi iron for about a year now, when i first bought it i paid about $130. I was like WOW, i am not spending that money on a straightner, but once i saw the results from my hair i was completly amazed. So here i am....(I havent even used this iron often i can count the number of times in a year)I have just recently moved back to the states and when i went to plug in my Chi iron i noticied that the light wouldn't stay on....if i held it just right then it would light up but the minute i set it down the light would go off and it wasnt heating properly....after a while it just stopped working...and my luck, the night i was going out for the first time in ages...so i had half straightened hair and half curly. I was Pissed. I asked my father if it could be fixed and what might be wrong with it...so he unscrewed it and noticed that the wire (which had been glued on!) was loose. I am so angry, $130 may not be alot to some people, but its hard earned money for me. I am sure this christmas someone will be buying me a new Chia flat iron, but i just might take it back get a refund and look at another lines products. I loved the way my hair looked, no one has ever been able to straighten it before, but when it comes down to it....do i really need to spend $130 every year? Im just upset with the quality of its make, and the fact that for the use i got out of it....i paid too much. otherwise the Chi flat iron would have more stars in my opinion!

Product Rating: 3 Not Durable
Reviewer: Vanessa   Sat Nov 26 2005

I bought the Chi a couple of years ago and was extremely happy with the results. My hair is very fine and curly, therefore I needed something that would be easy on my hair and really straighten it. It did a great job straightening my hair, however, after a year or so of usage (about twice a week) the blades started coming off and it got harder to straighten my hair because I'm assuming it wasn't getting as hot. The blades are still on, but I'm afraid of using my Chi anymore because the blades might come off while I'm using it and burn me! I wouldn't buy the Chi again because it is not durable. I'm thinking about getting the Sedu...but I want to make sure that one will last longer. So, I just decided to write this so that people would know what they were getting for their money...if you want to get a new Chi every few years and the price is worth it for you then go ahead and buy it...when it's working it does a great job. Otherwise, keep researching to find a more durable straightener. Hope this helps :)

I've had this hair straightener for about 5 years. I didn't use to use it much. Then I started straightning my hair about 3 times a week. Not only did that damage my hair and give me TONS of broken hairs but after about 3 months of continuous use this straightener is taking even longer to heat up and takes a long time to straighten. I have very thick, wavy hair and at first the CHI was fabulous, but with real use on hair as tough to straighten as mine it wasn't that great. My hair was NOT humidity resistant with this straightener. TWO MINUTES outside and the 25 minutes I spent straightening my hair was worthless. My hair is damaged greatly now and I'm waiting for my Sedu to arrive in the mail sometime before Thanksgiving. This straightener still gets the job done, but now it takes forever to heat up and breaks my hairs. I'm sure this straightener would heat up great every time if you only straightened your hair once a week, but for real use I wouldn't buy another CHI again.

Product Rating: 5 I LOVE THIS.

I've had the chi ceramic flat iron now for about.. SEVEN YEARS, maybe eight. It has never done me wrong, and frankly, I'm surprised it's lasted so long, even with my almost daily use. It always leaves my hair incredibly straight, but more importantly, soft as well. It doesn't leave your hair with that "straight" fried look. My friends always ask me how I get my hair so straight, even with a hair straightener (I guess their flat irons don't work as well). Sadly, after a very long and happy life, my flat iron is finally beginning to show signs that it's dying, but I'm not upset at all because it's been so long.

Product Rating: 4 Great Flatiron but it's Dangerous!
Reviewer: Shana from United States  Mon Nov 02 2009

I have had my CHI for 2.5 years now. Every so often it would start popping in the electric outlet and the red light would flicker. Now today it started popping and then the outlet started SMOKING. I'm lucky I didn't get ELECTROCUTED or start a fire. Needless to say, I'm sitting home waiting for an electrician to come repair the outlet.

The CHI always got my hair super straight and soft and was very easy to use. The CHI would be fantastic if only it wasn't so DANGEROUS.

Now that I need to replace it, I'm going with a Solia.

I've had this straightener for about two years. after the first year it stopped working. COMPLETELY! i wouldnt turn on or anything! so then i had to mail to texas so i can i get a brand new one. after a week or so they mailed me a brand new one. and that was a year ago and i am still using the same one. dont get me wrong it works good and everything but i dont really like the way my hair comes out. so i think its time for me to upgrade.

Product Rating: 3 it lasted 9 months
Reviewer: Anna   Sun Nov 01 2009

after about 9 months of almost everyday use with this flat iron, my friend was curling my hair and suddenly the on/off switch crumbled and fell off. There was no aparent reason why it did so, but now it doesnt turn on, i may be able to use a bobby pin to fix it but im not sure, i am very dissapointed in this product. If you want a good flat iron that will last you a long time i suggest a sedu or a solia.

Product Rating: 1 THIS BREAKS EASY ONLY GOOD FOR 1 YEAR
Reviewer: Christine from BATON ROUGE, LA  Mon Oct 26 2009

I have bought 4 for 2 girls, they are constanly breaking. Looking for another brand. It shorts out very easily at the end wear the cord connects. I do not recommend due to the breaking.

I love love love this iron. had it for almost 4 yrs. still works perfectly and made my ultra thick frizzy curly hair sleek and shiny. And you can also use it as a curling iron for your ends it works really well.

Product Rating: 3 good to bad
Reviewer: Kelsey   Sat Oct 24 2009

okay i got my chi(its pink) about two years ago and the first year it worked greatt! especially compared to my paul mitchell one. but over the past year it doesnt work so well..
i dont know if its dying out or if its not getting as hot or what but my hair turns out frizzy and 3 hours into the day its starting to wave. im so sick of it now i have even stated going back to my paul mitchell which is almost 4 years old. i use a straightener 5 to 7 days a week, so i guess that could be why. some people complain about there straightener going out within the first year, mine didnt necessarly go out but it definatly does not work as well.
also my mom complained about the price when she bought it (mine was 120) which i agree i think it is over priced for going out within 2 years. i wish i had looked more into it at the time but i was only 12.

now i think im going to ask for a hai this christmas cause my friend has one and it works reallly well:)

Product Rating: 5 After 3 years it still works!

I have never had one problem with this iron, I've had it for over three years now and use it regularly in the salon! This iron leaves the hair silky smooth and the style lasts till the next day, unlike other irons that claim to do the same job, this iron really produces results. I love CHI products and give them all a five star rating.

Product Rating: 3 Its okay
Reviewer: ellie   Wed Oct 21 2009

Its good for people with thin hair. My hair is thick and coarse so it doesnt work that great for me. If your hair is also thick and curly then i really dont recomend this iron. My hair gets fairly straight from using it but it just doesnt look healthy and shiny. ANd my ends loock terrible when i straighten my hair with the CHI!!! It really damages your hair if you have coarse hair in the first place. If you have fine hair then this would be a good product.

Product Rating: 5 I FN LOVE MY CHI

Being a hair stylist...its on all day. And they take a hell of a beating...i have dropped mine on the marble floor at least 100 times and it is still in perfect condition...except for a couple of scratches. It would never "fry" anyones hair if people had the right knowledge as to how to use them. Don't know how.....ask a stylist! I highly recommend them for EVERY HAIR TYPE. always use a heat protectant first! they are simply the best and can not be beat!

Product Rating: 1 it's good until it breaks
Reviewer: Jean from Philadelphia  Mon Oct 19 2009

I was happy with my first chi 1" flatiron until it stopped working. There was a problem with the cord. I had owned it for about a year so I decided it must have been overused between myself and two teenage daughters. I purchased another identical iron. Low and behold after about 10 months the same exact problem. I can't blame it on overuse because my one daughter went off to college and I rarely used it.
When my oldest daughter left she purchased a solia. She loves it. Guess what I'm buying next? For close to a 100 dollar price tag, it should last longer than a year
