I was introduced to the Chi from a friend but after she told me how much it was I didn't give it another thought. That is until about one year later I was getting my hair cut and the beautician straightend my hair and I asked her what she was using and she told me it was a Chi. I was AMAZED! I have naturally very, very curly, thick, wavy hair and the Chi gave me instant, smooth, sleek, and shiny results. My hair went from "blah" to super modle hair in under 10 minutes! And not because the hair dresser was experienced, it was from the Chi. I went out and bought one that night, tried it for myself the next morning and got the same results. It was worth the money from ordering online. I use my Chi everyday and from the shower and drying my hair to using my Chi I have fabulous results in under 20 minutes! And don't worry about humidity! Trust me I would know, my hair now stays straight and healthy looking all day no matter what. I wouldn't give up my Chi for anything!!! GET ONE!!! You won't be dissapointed :)

i got this iron yesterday and couldn't wait to review it. First of all waves and flips are easy. so is straightening your hair. it heats up in seconds. the curls was the hard part. i finally figured out how to do it and want to share with those who are still struggling. Take a piece of hair by the root and put it into the iron. rotate the iron 360 degrees so your hair goes all the way around the hot part. hold for a second or less (it works really fast) release SLIGHTLY and pull down hold and press again for a second. Make sure the hair is pulled tightly around the iron for best results. Release slightly again and keep lowering it to the root little by little making sure your hair still wrapped around the iron. you don't wanna wrap the WHOLE strand of hair around like when using a typical curling iron, this will not work. With the chi you can creat a curl SO FAST and you dont have to sit and hold it like with cheap irons. the faster you do it the bigger the curls/waves. if you do it little by little you'll have curly sue curls!

I ordered my first CHI about 4 years ago and was totally satisfied. I have very curly hair that the CHI controls whether I blow dry it or not. I've never had a problem with damaging or burning my hair, for which some of the cheaper flat irons are responsible. I even used my CHI in Europe for a year with a converter, and though they tell you it can't handle the different wattage, and it held up just fine. The CHI finally came to its end when I accidentally dropped it about a month ago(though I was anal retentive about protecting it, this was probably the third time it had fallen throughout its life). One of the plates had finally broken lose (after the second fall, this plate would slide out everyonce in a while, but I learned how to manuever so this wouldn't happen), and I sadly laid the CHI to rest... And then ordered another one. I've never had problems with the cord (as I've read on some reviews), but the instructions caution you to take very good care of it -- I never wrapped the cord around the straightener, just loosely coiled it all together and put it in a drawer. I think it's totally a worthy and satisfying investment -- you just have to protect it!

I recently had to purchase another Chi iron as the one I had owned and used roughly 4x/week finally decided to give out on me after four solid years of use. For the $89 spent, it is sooooo well worth the very small investment as the Chi honestly works 200% better than any "off" brand that you might be able to get at a local discount store. Trust me, I am a frugal person and actually bought two of the cheaper imitations and you truly get what you pay for. Some of the imitations are fine in you already have straight hair and just need a quick touch up, but my hair is THICK, COARSE, and naturally CURLY - which = FRIZZY if not done right! I also recommend a good hair serum when using any flat iron to protect your hair from being damaged. I hope this helps!

i see lots of reviews for wavy hair, and somewhat curly hair. but do you wanna see a review of how this flat iron works on HIGHLY-TEXTURED hair? then look at MY PICS!!!

i braided my hair into 12 braids after washing and deep conditioning, and let it dry overnight. then the next day i took down a braid, sprayed some heat protectant on, and straightened small sections of hair. repeated this process until i was done with my entire head. lastly, i added an anti-humectant to help keep my hair from reverting. but it was perfectly straight before i added the anti-humectant. i've also used it on a friend who has 4b natural hair, i don't have pics of her but trust me it came out gorgeous. neither of us had any problems with our hair reverting back to its natural glory once we washed it. definitely worth the money! =)

OMG!!! I've had my chi for 4 years now, and it still works great!!! It heats up excellent, and it leaves my hair beautiful and straight!

The only thing wrong with it is...the year warranty goes out and it CONVENIENTLY breaks right afterward! First, it started randomly shutting off. I thought it was the cord, but turns out it was the on-off switch--which snapped off right after I found out the problem! So, I just used some tape to hold it in place and keep it on!! Innovation!

Later, one of the plates came unglued and now hangs on by two wires...talk about dangerous!! It likes to snag my hair every now and then...

So, if you are reading this and wondering whether to buy it or not...it depends. IT works great! Its just not very durable after the warranty runs out...I like it, but the Solia seems to be much more durable, but does not work quite as well as the Chi (found out from ratings & reviews).

I have had 2 CHI Irons now and the same thing happened with both. I am very happy with the way it works, if you use it properly you will see the best results. The only complaint I have is the durability. After 2 years on both Irons the cord gets shorted out near the top where it connects to the Iron. For the price of a chi you would think they would last longer...

I purchased the CHI iron but I was very disappointed and I returned it. The first time I used the CHI flat iron, it fried my hair. It was awful. My hair smelled like it had been charred after using the product the first time. I will stick to my Sedu flat iron.

I've been using flat irons for about 6 years now and have tried several brands. I started with Wal-Mart cheap irons and they constantly caught and ripped out my hair. I then bought the Helen of Troy brand because a friend recommended it to me. They worked great for about 1-2 years then the plates would start losing heat. I was spending $40+ every 1-2 years. Since I got my Chi I have been so happy! It does wonders for my hair, and takes half the time to flat iron than the other irons I've used. I have fine hair, so I use a heat protectorant with the iron and my hair stays healthy and smooth. It's worth the price! (Especially with the free pouch) :)

Product Rating: 2 Not durable!!!!!
Reviewer: Carminkri   Fri Mar 03 2006

I was very happy with the performance of the CHI, however, it lasted 3 days. I used it one morning, then went to use it later that day on my daughter, and nothing! Thank goodness Folica was awesome about recommending one that was more durable. I sent a complaint to CHI about the durability, mind you I never dropped it or anything. I put it in the pouch after each use, didn't wrap the cord around it or anything. I was told by CHI that this was new and improved (without the safety plug) however, I would say that it is not.

This does not have the safety plug, therefore, if it needs "reset" there is no way to do this. So, I am returning my chi, and have already replaced it with a SEDU. I love my SEDU, it was worth the price, plus the reassurance of durabilty, AND it has the safety plug feature.

I have had my Chi iron for about a year now, when i first bought it i paid about $130. I was like WOW, i am not spending that money on a straightner, but once i saw the results from my hair i was completly amazed. So here i am....(I havent even used this iron often i can count the number of times in a year)I have just recently moved back to the states and when i went to plug in my Chi iron i noticied that the light wouldn't stay on....if i held it just right then it would light up but the minute i set it down the light would go off and it wasnt heating properly....after a while it just stopped working...and my luck, the night i was going out for the first time in ages...so i had half straightened hair and half curly. I was Pissed. I asked my father if it could be fixed and what might be wrong with it...so he unscrewed it and noticed that the wire (which had been glued on!) was loose. I am so angry, $130 may not be alot to some people, but its hard earned money for me. I am sure this christmas someone will be buying me a new Chia flat iron, but i just might take it back get a refund and look at another lines products. I loved the way my hair looked, no one has ever been able to straighten it before, but when it comes down to it....do i really need to spend $130 every year? Im just upset with the quality of its make, and the fact that for the use i got out of it....i paid too much. otherwise the Chi flat iron would have more stars in my opinion!

Product Rating: 3 Not Durable
Reviewer: Vanessa   Sat Nov 26 2005

I bought the Chi a couple of years ago and was extremely happy with the results. My hair is very fine and curly, therefore I needed something that would be easy on my hair and really straighten it. It did a great job straightening my hair, however, after a year or so of usage (about twice a week) the blades started coming off and it got harder to straighten my hair because I'm assuming it wasn't getting as hot. The blades are still on, but I'm afraid of using my Chi anymore because the blades might come off while I'm using it and burn me! I wouldn't buy the Chi again because it is not durable. I'm thinking about getting the Sedu...but I want to make sure that one will last longer. So, I just decided to write this so that people would know what they were getting for their money...if you want to get a new Chi every few years and the price is worth it for you then go ahead and buy it...when it's working it does a great job. Otherwise, keep researching to find a more durable straightener. Hope this helps :)

I've had this hair straightener for about 5 years. I didn't use to use it much. Then I started straightning my hair about 3 times a week. Not only did that damage my hair and give me TONS of broken hairs but after about 3 months of continuous use this straightener is taking even longer to heat up and takes a long time to straighten. I have very thick, wavy hair and at first the CHI was fabulous, but with real use on hair as tough to straighten as mine it wasn't that great. My hair was NOT humidity resistant with this straightener. TWO MINUTES outside and the 25 minutes I spent straightening my hair was worthless. My hair is damaged greatly now and I'm waiting for my Sedu to arrive in the mail sometime before Thanksgiving. This straightener still gets the job done, but now it takes forever to heat up and breaks my hairs. I'm sure this straightener would heat up great every time if you only straightened your hair once a week, but for real use I wouldn't buy another CHI again.

Product Rating: 4 It might fry your hair but it's not hard to bring fried hair back to life.
Reviewer: Amy   Thu Jun 05 2008

I just got the CHI and i had been using a fairly good straightener before and this does so much better on my totally curly almost afro hair. they all say that this is a waste of your money because it will fry your hair but my hair has been fried and i brought it back again. sure, it might not be as shiny as it used to be but, thanks to the CHI it keeps it's natural shiny and silk so when my boyfriend puts his hands through my hair it doesn't feel like i had either waayy too much humidity in it or someone went through it with some rake that had loads of hairspray in it.

Ingore all the bad reviews! I bought this straightner for myself, compared to my cheap 30$ flat iron the results are AMAZING! IT WILL DRY AND DAMAGE YOUR HAIR IF MISUSED!! Dont straighten your hair everyday! If you have baby powder sprinkle it on your hair to absorb oil and keep it sleek and shiny. Before using MAKE sure that you use a serum(ive found that works best) and a spray! On each section you straightn make sure you have serum on it! Dont run straightner through it slowly or run it through too many times! THATS HOW IT GETS FRIED!! If you clip it up in sections you will maybe run it through your hair once or twice and it WILL LOOK SOFT SILKY AND SHINY! It is a great price, i have had it TWO years, if stored correctly and not thrown around it will last forever!

IF you are thinking about not buying it because of other reviews inore it! The only way it will damage your hair is if you do not follow the proper procedures!

I have been straightening my hair for about nine years, so needless to say I've had plenty of experience with flat irons. I've been through a bunch of them, the last being a very disappointing model from TIGI which lasted only a couple months. I decided to buy the Chi because I've heard such great things about it from my hair stylist, and so far it's working wonderfully. It heats up in seconds and I can get my hair from wavy and fluffy to straight and smooth very quickly. This is saying a lot, too -- I have very thick hair that tends to do whatever it pleases! Also, the price was very good... the only reason I never bought one before was because I could only find them sold for $100+. We'll see how it stands up to my daily abuse, but I definitely would recommend this iron!

I love this 1" iron. It is made of the best quality--easy to use and hold onto. I have never used an iron that is this nice. If you want a quality iron that will last forever, it is worth it to invest the money.

i've had one for about 3 years now and my current second one is finished as it suffered the same death of my first one. and that was because the on/off button melted off (i know i couldn't believe that can happen either). but it straightens great, leaves hair nice and now it has left me in tears because of the money i spent on it. its great if you have the money to replace it every 1 or so.
