Product Rating: 4 works but it's a very fragile product
Reviewer: elly   Thu Jul 31 2008

Most people I know with wavy or curly hair including me have this iron and it works very well but we've all have to send it back to get it replaced cuz it just dies on you. I had to send it back to get it replaced at least twice a year, then I accidentally hit it (not hard)with the corner of my dresser and one of the ceramic pieces fell off, then my baby dropped it and both ceramic parts came off.

Product Rating: 1 Worst straightener I've ever used
Reviewer: Jennifer from Baltimore, MD  Wed Jul 30 2008

I have relatively straight hair to begin with, but every morning I go over my hair with a flat iron anyway. A few years ago, when the CHI had just been gaining in popularity, I of course, wanted to upgrade from my cheap Conair to a "salon professional" CHI. Needless to say, my Conair worked 10 times better than my CHI did. I tried it for a few days, hoping maybe it would get hotter, but it never did. I returned it, and ordered a Solia which is absolutely amazing. Don't give into CHI's familiarness - other straighteners are less expensive and work a good 100% better. Try a Solia or a Sedu - they actually work.

I LOVE my chi. I have used it on every family vacation. Use it for school every other day because it lasts so long. Section your hair off and use a protectant before styling. It works well here in FL with high humidity and at outdoor camp dances. Works best in CO with no humidity at all.

Product Rating: 5 I love this iron!!
Reviewer: Lealya from Lebanon, MO  Wed Jul 16 2008

My problem with my hair is that through the years it has gotten coarse, and wavy, ever since I had a baby. Every real salon I have ever been to uses chi, and my hair has felt fabulous every time, except that once a beautician used a sticky cheap serum on it, and made it stiff. I went to a little cheap hair shop once when I was in a hurry (great clips), but it wasn't great or quick, the lady used another brand on my hair and she had to make 5 swipes on each little piece of hair, and it took her 2 hours to flatten it. I just got my chi from here and it takes me 10 minutes to do it at home myself!! My hair is thick coarse and wavy, and comes about to my back bra strap. I love this chi! It awesome!!

Product Rating: 2 Chi sucks straight up.
Reviewer: shandi from Texas  Wed Jul 16 2008

So I used to have nice wavy asian hair, and I wanted it straight so I decided to get a chi. I also use other chi products like the heat protectant, and the silk unfusion. Anyways, after a while using this straightener it literally burnt my hair really badly, and it dried my hair badly. I had to cut ALOT of my hair off. It even randomly started to steam up. Chi sucks. Enough said.

Product Rating: 2 NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!!!
Reviewer: Gel from Aiea, HI  Wed Jul 16 2008

I had tried my roommates chi flat iron and I fell in love. SO i decided to order my own. It worked well for about 5 months and all of a sudden I smelt something burning and at first I thought it was my hair. But suddenly I realized it was m straightener. The on and off switch melted. I have no idea how it could have happened but it did.

I advice anyone who is buying to think twice. It's a good product but not manufactured well.

Now I'm using the Sedu and it works waaaaay better. I have very thick curly hair and it creates smooth straight hair. AND I DON'T EVEN ADD ANY CHEMICALS/GELS/SERUMS to it! That's how great it is!!!! And to add to that, there are times where I flat iron my hair before I go to bed and the next day all i need to do is comb it and it's still straight!!!

Overall, the CHI is NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!!!!!! IF you want to buy a straightener that lasts for less than a year than go for it. But as for me, BYE CHI! HELLO SEDU!

I just got the chi straightener and i think its pretty good. it works just as good as my old revlon straightener that was only $30 though. The chi feels a little wobbly like the handles are going to break off. But other than that its a good straightener.

Product Rating: 5 Best Freakin Straightener
Reviewer: aurelia from kansas  Tue Jul 15 2008

I have really long, curly hair, and I KNOW about straighteners. This one is my favorite ever, and it is amazing. It doesn't fry your hair, it gets hot fast, and it gives you real shine :) just a tip: it's better to run it over your hair once slowly, not lots of times fast. Fast and lots of times magnetizes your hair (and it gets just as hot) and gives it more static. Love the chi!

Product Rating: 1 Awful! Get the Sedu!
Reviewer: Devastated from Amarillo, TX.  Fri Jul 11 2008

I had long hair that was two inches below my elbows. Well I have been using my trusty Sedu for two years with not even the slightest bit of damage. My hair is relatively fine to medium in thickness, so I didn't think that the tempature would be a problem. Boy was I wrong! The CHI fried my beautiful hair. I had to cut of 10 inches of dinosaur tail looking split ends. It turned my hair a lighter color that it was before using the iron, from nearly black to medium brown. I miss my hair so much and the CHI really wan't worth using just that one time.

I bought the CHI flat iron off amazon with freeshipping for 70 bux [it's cheaper only problem is that you don't get a warranty when you buy off amazon but ANYWAYS...The CHI flat iron is great I've used it atleast 4-5 times on my head now. It heats up fast, it leaves your hair shiny and it's pretty easy to use. I also like how you can curl, flip and style your hair with it not just straighten it. My only complaint about the CHI is that when I went to summer camp I brought it and when I went to plug it in it wouldn't start up, so I had to take it out of the socket and then press the reset button. [I had to do this when I used it later that week too] Other then this I have no complaints about the CHI. Also, don't put too much straightening balm or heat protectant only use a little because if you use too much it will fry your hair and it won't straighten correctly. ALSO clean the CHI with a dab of rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball after every use.

Product Rating: 1 Not good.

I have owned two CHIs and my sister has owned one. All three have broken within a year or two of purchase. They all seem to have the same problem, some sort of electrical shortage in the wire or something. I also have a friend that had one break within a few months of purchase. They are great when they work, but they don't work very long!

Product Rating: 5 Just what you need
Reviewer: Ali   Fri Jul 04 2008

I got the CHI ceramic flat iron about a year ago. I had used other cheaper straighteners before I got the CHI, but none of them even compared. Other people say their hair has been damaged by it, but it actually has helped my hair. Lots of my friends have it, too and everyone looks better. There are CHI products that you can put on to keep it from damaging if you have hair that's easily messed up, too. I only have one complaint; that is that the wire is loose and it had to face a certain way to work... why did I say "had?" Well.. the wire being loose, it started sparking a week or two later. But the warenty isn't out yet and I'm hoping to exchange it for a new one. I'm definately going to get another CHI, and I still recomend it.

Product Rating: 5 Perfect for the right hair type
Reviewer: Lindsay from Ontario, Canada  Tue Jul 01 2008

I've had this iron for about 3 years now. My hair is on the thicker side, in healthy condition, and long. My hair is wavy, and can hold a curl or be straightened without much coaxing, so I'm lucky in that respect. I have to say I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews this product is getting. I think it's amazing and I fell in love when I first got it, for about twice as much from a retail store! I think part of the problem might be lack of product/over-styling that might be contributing to damage. My hairstylist recommended Chi to me.

I don't straighten my hair every day; I would say I use it frequently - maybe twice a week (sometimes more and sometimes less). I try to let my hair air dry before straightening by taking a shower the night before and then styling in the morning with my iron, for example. This tends to reduce the heat stress on my hair and I get less breakage. I also use a hair strengthening spritz and biosilk before and a little after styling just for added protection - and that's in addition to leave-in conditioner and a little smoothing balm after I shower. I don't find that the lack of temperature control is necessarily such a bad thing, since I'm the only one who uses the iron and recommended heat settings on temp-control products tend to be right in the range of 370 anyway for my particular hair type/length (the Chi's apparent temperature).

This product heats up quite quickly. I turn it on while doing my make-up in the morning and it's more than ready by the time I do my hair. It only takes me about 10 minutes to do all of my hair, and it's midway down my back. It leaves it shiny, smooth and very straight - also very resistant to any humidity or moisture from the rain. I do find I have to be more careful in the winter, since I live in Canada and it can really dry out my hair at this time. For my hair type this product is fantastic, and I would highly recommend. If your hair is damaged or fine then I'd suggest something with flexible temp-settings until you know exactly what you're looking for. For people with unruly hair who need to use heat products like this daily, so far this product has been great for me and lasted 3+ years, but I don't think I tax it as much as others might.

not working well for me.

Product Rating: 5 I love my CHI!
Reviewer: Brittany   Tue Jul 01 2008

I have had my CHI for over two years now, and I have done everything wrong with it... I've wrapped the cord around it, left it on, used it everyday, dropped it, etc... It's been there with me through thick and thin and still continues to work! It leaves my hair beautiful! I love it!! I won't buy anything else... I just recently bought a Corioliss - the lady said that it was better than a CHI (a total lie), so I thought of how much I loved my CHI and bought it right away... Too bad I didn't know that salespeople could lie to your face! The Corioliss is terrible compared to a CHI, much lower quality. I will never buy anything else again! So - GO FOR IT, buy the CHI! :)

Product Rating: 5 I love my Chi!!
Reviewer: Laura   Sat Jun 28 2008

I read all the reviews and i needed a good straightner for college.. so I bought a Sedu, but it broke after two days I was so upset!!!! But I have shared a Chi straightner with my mom for a year and a half we have never had a problem sometimes it won't turn on but all you have to do is push the reset button. The sedu straightner doesn't have a reset button so THE SEDU IS A WASTE OF MONEY! Now I'm takin the cheap horrible sedu flat iron that doesn't work and replacing it with a great CHI straightner!!

Product Rating: 2 GOOD....... then basically explodes
Reviewer: Ellie from Chicago IL  Fri Jun 27 2008

Yea this CHI works great for at least 4 or 5 months and then it starts losing its heat. Also, it fries your hair. I have thick hair so I have run my hair through it a couple of times and it still isn't very straight. Instead it's fried. I've had my CHI for about 11 months and a week ago, it started to smell. Just yesterday I plugged it in and turned it on and the plates started to smoke. I'm not kidding i had it on one of those heat protecting mats and I start smelling smoke and turned around to see it was the CHI.I took good care of it as i said i kept it in a heat protective pouch. I'd only recomend it if you LOVE the smell of smoke and burning hair.

Product Rating: 5 best iron
Reviewer: Ally P. from Freehold, New Jersey  Sun Jun 22 2008

i have had my chi for 3 years and have only had one problem, but it was fixable, because the wire got caught and the iron kept turning off. but my sister and i have thick curly hair and this straightener makes it silky and it remains straight all day. i have tried many different irons while working in the hair salon. and all the workers say the chi is their favorite, and i agree 100%. BUY THE CHI!!

Product Rating: 1 ITS NOT CERAMIC !!!!
Reviewer: CHRISTY   Sat Jun 21 2008

THIS CHI IS A SCAM. IF YOUR CHI MAKES YOUR HAIR DRY, THAT IS BECAUSE IT IS NOT CERAMIC IF YOU TAKE A KEY AND SCRATCH THE PLATE YOU WILL SEE IT IS METAL.
