I have been in the beauty industry for over 8 years. I hope this helps someone!
After going through hundreds of dollars and 2 Farouk Chi irons, I had given up!
Let me start by telling you that Sally's owns the large group of beauty stores that sells the high end products that upscale salons purchase their retail from. This is a FACT!
Tired of putting out so much money for the CHI, I called Sally's and asked them for advice on something that is similar to the Chi, but not as expensive.
They reccommended the Generic Chi. I went in and purchase it, and they told me that I was not COMPLETELY satisfied I could return it for a FULL refund.
I took it home and couldn't believe how well it worked! It's just as good, if not better and it was HALF THE PRICE!
This is coming from a person who has owned 2 Chi's (both of which broke after the 1 year warranty) and whom also has extreamly curly hair (spirals)! I would definatly say that it was a GREAT purchase!
Loved it... at first

I was really excited about getting this chi but I found that it did not work as well as my original chi that I had given to my sister. My hair would stay straight for an hour or so and then frizz up. (but that may be attributed to the fact that I live in the most humid state in the country, Louisiana) Also, it has some sort of short in it to where the temperature gauge has to be set just right for the chi to even heat up!
its ok... for a while.

ok so i didnt buy mine, someone gave it to me and they had only used it like twice. so the day i tried it, it got back to wavy/frizzy untamed hair in like 15 minutes, well that was because i didnt know how to straighten it in sections. so,that happened like 8 times. then i saw a youtube video and i finally learned how to. (like 2 weeks later) and it worked good, but it still went back to wavy, frizzy, untamed hair in like an hour. i have had this iron for like 1 year. and i dont like it at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to be a chi, its horrible. dont be fooled by the name turbo. i dont even use it anymore, i scrunch my hair now. my grandma was going on vacation the other day, and she tried it before she left, and it didnt work at all (she has really curly hair).so finally i just ordered a sedu yesterday online on folica :D and i hope it comes like saturday or something:D!! im really excited.

This is the second CHI product I have purchased. It works great but with both items a little over a year of use the GFI plug seem to die. I went to turn it on one morning and heard a pop noise, tried the reset buttons but nothing. Now what I don't think I can get buy without my flat iron but doen't have the money to buy a new one every year either.
not the best

unhappy with Chi

I recently broke my flat iron and have been using my sister's Chi Turbo until my new one gets here. I have thick, wavy/curly hair, and the turbo was just not hot enough. I had to go over my hair several times to see any result. My stylist recommended the FHI, which I'm glad I picked over the Chi turbo. This product does not work well with thick hair!
They don't last long

Chi are good but don't last that long.

I had my CHI flat iron for 3 years before my little sister stepped on it and broke it. The best straightener I have ever used. I would recommend it to anyone. I also have VERY curly hair so the fact that it gets that straight that fast is absolutely miraculous. The best!!

I bought the turbo about two years ago and it still works like new. I am Africian American and it works on my hair. The key to using this flat iron for Africian American women is the make sure that you hair is clean and put a little kemi oil in it before using the iron. I highly recommended CHI and it is worth the money.

I purchased a CHI...it worked great the 2 times I got to use it. It would not turn on after that. I contacted Chi as I missed the 30 day return window. They said they do not honor the warranty for internet purchases.
Needless to say I am out over $100 bucks and very unhappy. NEVER AGAIN! Chi stinks, they don't stand by their junky products that probably cost them $1 to make.
Reliable when it works

I purchased the CHI turbo may be more than year and a half ago, and it did work fine. I’ve never had any temperature control issues. I noticed though that in a long run but when the flat iron after every time I washed my hair, it started looking a little bit not as healthy as it did in the beginning. Soon after that, just like mentioned in some of the reviews, I just plugged it in one day and it did not start. I think that for the money I paid, I deserve something more reliable!!! So ladies, be aware and prepared: one day, sooner or later when you are in a hurry and want to fix your hair, your magic CHI turbo will not start....
Get the original CHI, not the Turbo!

I must have done something wrong, or maybe it was the different temperatures this iron has to go through in order to heat up, but I had to do 3 passes for each hair strand. My hair is not even curly, it is however very frizzy, thick and can be unmanageable. I got this from my hair salon, and I must say, after paying such an amount of money, I was completeley disappointed. I exchanged it after 3 months at my hair salon, and the manager looked at me suspiciously, as if I was returning a defect product.
I wasn't! The Chi worked the same from day one. It was heavy on my small wrist, hard to use on bangs, and time consuming. It was never hot enough. i wanted to exchange it for a GHD, but the store would not give me cash back when I returned the CHI. Then an African American lady told me I shoul exchange the CHI turbo for the original. Which I did. What a difference! Though I still secretly long for GHD, my hair is silky straight and looks like it was done at a salon by a professional.
Get the original, instead of the clunky, heavy CHI Turbo.
The original has a preset temperature, and this is better than having a temp control, because the temp control does not work.
Maybe the preset temp is the reason why the Sedu, the original CHI and the GHD get fantastic reviews, while the T3 and the Turbo get less favourable reviews.
In order to prolong the life of your CHI never ever wrap the cord around the hair straightener, and don't forget about it, going around your bussiness, maybe reading or cleaning the house while it is plugged in and on.Never drop it and handle it with care, at least that's what the instructions say.

I've had this chi for over a year and a half and i don't know what i would do without it. It makes my hair so smooth after straightening it and i don't get split ends as quick as i used to with other cheap irons. The money is sooo worth it!

I got this for christmas a year ago and it worked a lot better than my Hot Tools flat iron. All my friends want to use it when they are at my house and it takes me very little time to straighten my frizzy, thick hair. I recommend using a hair protecter spray on your hair before you use it because it damages your hair with the heat.
