Does anyone else's CHI seem to be getting stuff caked on it? On the ceramic plates, it seems like there is a build-up, and what is the best way to clean it off? Question posted by Sarah Sat Jun 25 2005 Submit your answer | Reply by Cheri

do not use the normal cleaning stuff on the plates, you can use the cleanser designed for flat irons (i think folica.com offers it too) | | Reply by Christina, Canada

The reason your chi iron creates a build up is because you are putting products in your hair. When you put a product in your hair after you use it, and then lets say the next day you re-flat iron it, it starts to build a film. This is what becomes the build-up.
Suggestion: If possible, use just a light leave in conditioner in your hair before you blow dry, then after your hair is dry, flat iron. Then go with a simple light spray or hairspray or a light shining mist. But, if you plan to re-flat iron your hair, just let it cool after you are done and give it a quick wipe down. And then once every two weeks (if you use it every day) give it a more thorout cleaning. If you use it less than that, once a month should suffice. | | Reply by mary-anna

the residue you see on your flat iron are the styling products you're using. But you can easily clean this off by simply using a cotton ball soaked in alcohol. with the flat iron cool and switched OFF (that is, disconnected from the electric socket-so that you don't get electricuted!!) you can gently wipe off the sticky residue. The alcohol won't damage the plates. this is how i always clean my chi flat iron and it's still like when i first got it. | | Reply by Dalia Gutierrez
