BioSilk Silk Therapy is amazing. Use it sparingly, it will last you a long time! another one of my favorites is SleekLook by Matrix- it is applied to damp hair. i won't blow-dry my hair without it.

This is how I do my routine, and I'll tell you my hair is never out of place: 1. Use Nexus Therappe Luxury Moisturizing Shampoo. 2. Mix together Biosilk Silk Therapy Conditioner and CHI Infra Treatment. Leave on for five minutes. 3. Step out of the shower and leave your towel on your head for 15 minutes. 4. Put Silk Therapy Cure Soyeuse and CHI Keratin Mist in your hair, then blowdry straight. 5. Put on CHI Silk Infusion and CHI 44 Iron Gaurd. Then straighten in layers. 6. Before you step out the door, put some more Chi Keratin Mist on, it'll add some extra shine.

Afraid of "frying" my hair
I have three friends at school that use a CHI straightener and two of there hairs is "fried" and if I buy a CHI I wanted to know how can I prevent it from "frying"?

Some things to take into consideration are: what is the condition of you hair naturally? is it dry or coarse? Is your hair lightened or color-treated? Are you using the correct products? if you have coarse or dry hair naturally, be sure to use a smoothing or moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. If your hair is color treated (especially lightened or bleached) it will be more prone to drying out and breaking. it's all about the products. my hair is coarse and frizzy natrually, and you would never know it. there are so many protecting, smoothing, anti-frizz products out there- experiment and find the ones you like. or ask the person who does your hair.

To keep your hair from being fryed, you need to use a spray or cream. I use Spray Starch by Redken. It's amazing! It protects your hair from the heat of the flat iron. It also prevents frizziness.

My hairstylist told me that you MUST dry your hair with a blowdrier thoroughly before using a flatiron to help prevent frying your hair. Also, she told me to not let the flat iron stay on the same spot--keep it moving down the piece of hair you're using it on or it will fry. She holds a brush in one hand and the flat iron in the other and runs the brush through the hair right in front of the flatiron to get the hair as smooth as possible going into the iron. She also recommends using a spray designed to go with flatirons if worried about damaging the hair. She's done my hair for 25 years and I trust her enough to try this. (She recommends the CHI original that does not have temperature control. The variable temp ones don't get hot enough to work really well in her opinion.)

umm... there is special chi products to prevent things like that. Does your hair dresser have a chi? Have you straightend your hair before? Ask your hair dresser. I have only fried mine once with a chi. sometimes that means your hair is to oily or you straighten your hair too much.

Problems with Chi
I noticed all of the problems that people are having with these expensive Chi flat irons. I was wondering if these irons are falling apart even with proper care. One person notes that the clips seem to fall so quickly. Others note a short in just over a year. Is this because of the Chi or because of dropping it, wrapping the cord around the iron, etc. Please let me know. I just bought one and I have not used it yet.

I don't think it is the Chi in most cases. I have had mine for almost 3 years and it still works great. I have even dropped it a few times. I think they are good products, but you need to take care of them and treat them like they are worth the $100 that you paid for them. If you buy one, I hope it works well for you.

My chi worked for about a year, and it basically just stayed in my room, I never really dropped it, but I did wrap the cord around a lot, so maybe that had something to do with it breaking. Hope I was helpful. :)

I really think it has nothing to do with care. I never wrapped a cord around it or anything, I dropped it once (it was inevitable) but I really did take good care of it. Mine lasted about a year, and it wasn't that great in the end(or the beggining). I would recommend returning it. Not too good even if it was more reliable.

I have had my CHI flat iron for about three years now, and only recently did it start not working like it used to. the only problem it has now is that i have to position the cord properly for it to heat up. it's annoying that i have to buy another one, but i look at it this way: i am a hairstylist and have been using the iron for almost three years. i use it on nearly EVERYONE who comes in (provided their hair is long enough and they wear it straight.) i also use it on myself daily, or every other day. so this means that it was used multiple times almost DAILY for three years. that's a lot more use than it would get from the average person, and only recently has it started to act up. honestly, they work so well that i think they are worth every penny. sure, it would be great if one would last you a lifetime, but then they'd be charging a lot more, wouldn't they?

I bought a Chi two months ago and only used it twice. I was extremely careful with it since it is so expensive. I went to use it the other day and the light would not turn on and the plates will not heat up. I tried to return it and the place I bought it would not replace, they said to call the company and when I did they said no refund, returns or swaps. They said I could send it in if I still had the box but who keeps boxes on something that is "SUPPOSED" to be so great. I wouldn't buy another one. I have a flat iron that cost me $45 that still works, I have had it for 10 years and treat it rough. Good luck! Hope this helps!

I read several replies like mine... I've had my CHI just a little over a year and it has stopped working. I notices the the "on" light whould flicker and it took me a little while to realize that the CHI stopped working during these moments. Today, I can't get the light to come on at all or get any heat. I never dropped it but I did wrap the cord around it. I think a wire might be loose (due to wraping the cord?) because in my frustration I shook it and got the light to flicket some more.

I honestly don't think it's a matter of proper care. I think it's luck of the draw, almost. I got my Chi for college graduation last year - (year anniversary of that day was this past weekend!) and right on year anniversary it stopped working. So of course, no more warranty. Pretty ironic. Before I used the chi I read about the issues with the chord, so I was very careful never to wrap the chord around the base, I always let the chord hang loose in a drawer. I dropped it maybe once or twice, but quite awhile before it quit working. The problem with mine is the classic light flickering - which can only be improved by pushing on the plates. I've been reading threads for hours now, and I think I may give the sedu a shot. If you're gonna spend over a hundred bucks on a styling tool, I think it should last over a year. Maybe that's just me - but i like my money too much. =)

chi vs. sedu
I am traveling to europe this summer and want to take a hair straightner with me. I have looked into both the european version of the Chi flat iron and the european version of the Sedu. The prices are very similar, but I am having a hard time figuring out which one would be better. Any advice on which is the best?

Chi can NOT be used in European countries because of the voltage difference. Converter is NOT recommended for ANY flat iron because flat iron draws a large amount of electrical current in the first few seconds after you turn it on. NO converter on the market now can handle it.

I've had my CHI for over a year and a half, and the cord has detached itself from the base of the CHI. I hope that some wonderfull webgod on this web site can reveal the secret hiding spot of the CHI repare shop.

Pregnant
I just finally purchased a Chi and I got home and was so excited about using it. I read on the box a warning about in the state of California they did a study and the cord has lead in them and it can cause birth defects. It said to wash your hands after use. Does anyone know about the lead used in this and has anyone used this producted pregnant?

No, I've never used the product, but I did see a 20/20 or a Dateline episode about this issue. They tried contacting the company, but they wouldn't give any information about what causes the birth defects, but just said they had to keep the warning on for legal purposes. If there is lead in the cord that can be dangerous though.

Chi farouk iron
I purchased a CHI Farouk Iron from e-bay & when I received it the box read: IN Canada-Not for household use. Does this mean it is only for use in Salons in Canada? I don't understand why the seller didn't mention this & now I don't know what to do. I paid nearly $100.00 for it! What can I do?

Hi I hopes this helps.I'm from canada and I purchased a CHI on e-bay also and I use it all the time at home. My friend purchased her at a salon here in canada and she uses it at home also. So I don't think it means its only for salon use or they wouldn't sell it to customers.

Yea, as you slide it down the hair shaft to the end curl it over in a "C" motion and one you get to the end wrap it around the chi just like a curling iron and you will have a curl

you wrap the hair around something like a pencil and then run the CHI over the pencil with the hair wrapped around it

Hold the iron on your hair as if you were to straighten it about an inch away from your head flip the rest of your hair on top around the iron Hold the hair you flipped over the iron at the bottom at the same time and pull the iron straight down
