You guys must be kidding. Did you get paid by Frieda? This stuff deos nothing for my hair. There used to be something that I put i my hair and when it grew, my waves looked like you could swim in them LOL. When my curls grew in they were perfect. I think it might have been Ocean Waves, Im' not sure. My photo is there so you can see the texture of myhair. It is straight when short then gets a lil' wavy but when it grows long it doesn't really hold it's curl for more tha two weeks anymore and it starts looking very fro-like LOL. Does any one have any suggestions of what products will truly work with my hair based on looking at the text. of my hair? There are so many products out there that don't do anything now. I figured I would ask the real experts on haircare.. us. Your help is much appreciated. I miss my perfect curls...sigh.

Walmart and Kmart AND Shopko have all stopped carrying this product! I'm looking everywhere to order it online, and my bottle is empty.
I have thinner wavy hair, and this is the best product I have found thus far to use.
Anyone who said it makes their hair smell bad must have purchased a bad bottle, I love the smell.
And the only way it makes your hair quote "greasy" or "matted", is if you use it in mass loads...take it easy? Spray the product evenly over your hair (when its damp) NOT dry, or else it does get a little sticky....as any product would.
5 stars, would give it 6 if i could.

Product Rating: 5 Love it!!!

I love this product. With my curly hair, most products left my hair crunchy, dry, frizzy or both. Brilliant Waves has been a life saver! With just a little spritz my curly hair has body and shine! If you are a little product happy, this product will not work for you. On the days when I sprayed a lot on my hair, I was left with weighed down, cruchy hair. When using, just remember less is better. Added bonus... my skin is very sensitive to hair products. Brilliant waves is the only product that does not makes my face break out.

This product is amazing! I have been searching everywhere for it in stores where I live and can't find it! I was so glad when I saw it on this site! Its the best, its NOT sticky at all, and makes my hair really shiny!!!

My hair is medium textured and naturally curly, but endlessly frizzy.. :-( This product makes my curls so shiny, soft, full, and shapely, I absolutely love it. I have used it on damp or dry hair and it works equally well. I use the John Frieda moisturizing shampoo and conditioner with it and that's all I need. I've never experienced stickiness or heaviness like some others have commented. Thank you Mr Frieda!

I think this stuff makes your hair sticky and crunchy when it dries if you put it on wet. Didn't care for it.

I have baby fine hair and I am always looking for something to help it feel and look thicker. This product is pretty good. I have always liked John Freda products.

Product Rating: 2 Makes your hair stringy, stinky, and sticky; nothing else
Reviewer: Layla from Ohio  Wed Sep 19 2007

I bought this because all the reviews for sedu beach beauty spray were soo good but I didn't have the money to spend on it, so I bought a bottle of this Brilliant Brunette Starlit Waves Wave Enhancing Spray from my local grocery store (for $4.59). When I got home, I spritzed it all over and tousled my hair, expecting instant results.
The first thing I noticed was the smell, which was awful. It smelled musty as if it was 50 years old. Becoming dubious, I twisted my long hair in hopes that the spray would give me waves.
When the spray had dried, i noticed my hair reeked of that smell. It had supplied a little bit of volume, but not enough for anyone to notice. Running my fingers through my hair, I noticed how my hair felt a bit matted and sticky. I could also tell that my hair became stringy.
So, overall, this product SUCKS. It didn't work for me at all. Maybe you're not supposed to use it on dry hair, but when my hair was damp, I didn't even want to bother. Waste of money.

Product Rating: 1 Not anywhere near Ocean Waves
Reviewer: Anonymous   Wed Aug 15 2007

This product should NOT be marketed as the replacement of the Ocean Waves spray. it did not tame my long thick hair at all. I tried using anywhere from a little to a lot..using a LOT provided the ONLY results: sticky stiff hair that still had frizzies. the ocean waves beach blonde sea spray was AMAZING and gave me supple shiny waves all year long.

.....still waiting for them to bring back that product....hello! just market it under another name if the reason they took it off was just "seasonality" of the product.

Product Rating: 1 STARLIT WAVES?

I have straight hair but when I use this product I have a slight wave. My hair does not feel hard or sticky either.

Product Rating: 4 works well if...
Reviewer: Cristina from New York, NY  Sun Dec 31 2006

When i first used this product, i found that it dried out my hair and made it feel cruncy. then i discovered the perfect way to use it. i poured a little into a spray bottle and filled the rest with water. when i spray the diluted product into my hair i can get it a little damp, which seems to be crucial in the process of actually creating waves. The result is beachy, wavy hair that is soft (not crunchy or dried out). if you're experiencing the drying effect i really recomend that you dilute this product. it also makes it last a lot longer.

I purchased this product in hopes that it would be similar to the discontinued Beach Blonde Ocean Curls. It's not quite the same, but it's okay. Can you recommend another product to those of us who miss Ocean Curls?

Product Rating: 5 amazing
Reviewer: tamara   Fri Oct 27 2006

i really love this product, my hair looks healthier and feels so beautiful wihtout all the gel i used to use, but i do not use it alone, i also use the burnet shampoo and conditioner, and the anti frizz cream thing, and alittle scweeze of gel, but i think this is what is doing the most job!

Product Rating: 5 Great for fixing bad perms!
Reviewer: Chris Aiken from Gatlinburg, TN  Fri Oct 27 2006

My hair is really dry after a bad perm, but in the past I used to use Ocean Waves, until it got discontinued. After wearing my hair up forever (to cover up split ends)...I can finally wear my hair down again when I use Starlit Waves. My hair looks normal, not dry. Thank you John Frieda!!!

Product Rating: 5 Great for curly hair
Reviewer: Randi   Mon Oct 23 2006

I have very curly frizzy hair. This product helps keep the curl without the frizz. Just don't over spritz..You need less than you think...great product....

Reviewer: veronica from New York City  Fri Sep 22 2006

I was trying to replace John Frieda's ripple effect from the Relax line. I found the beach blonde version and didnt like it as much but it was okay and then that got discontinued too! This newest version is okay. I think it smells great. But it is too oily and leaves my hair looking shiny, and not in a good way.

Product Rating: 3 not the same as the beach blonde
Reviewer: Jamie   Sat Sep 16 2006

I'm a brunette and used the beach blonde ocean waves on my curly hair, it was great! the company suggested I use this product as a substitute and it's just not the same. I agree with the other reviews, it doesnt smell as nice and is kind of crunchy. If you have the money to spend (like $20 a bottle!), buy the discontinued stuff on ebay!

Product Rating: 4 Got the job done
Reviewer: Keely   Wed Aug 30 2006

I fell IN LOVE with Ocean Waves and when the product was discontinued I almost had a heart attack. I tried everything else to get the look, (including the overpriced and under-performing frederic fekkai wave spray,) but nothing gave me the beachy, fresh yet no fuss PERFECT waves like Ocean Waves. Thankfully I found this product online...as a blonde I was a little hesitant to purchase something in the brunette line, (knowing how they have less fun and all,) but this stuff works nearly as well....without the yummy smell though!

Product Rating: 4 Its' not Ocean Waves
Reviewer: Rebecca from CA  Fri Aug 18 2006

I tried this product because they discontinued Ocean Waves. This stuff is good, and will do almost all the same things as Ocean Waves, but it doesn't smell nearly as nice (but does not smell bad), and if I am not careful it makes my hair crunchy. So overall, this is a good product for curly hair if you want the loose, soft waves or curls. But Ocean Waves it is not. (sad)
