I bought this flat iron almost three years ago, and since then there wasn't a single day that passed when I didn't use it. This is the only iron I've ever had (and I've been through A LOT) that could turn my extremely thick, curly hair POKER STRAIGHT and give it a glass-like shine. Of course, there is a technique to it, but if you know how to work a flat iron I GUARANTEE you that you'll get the results you're looking for.
Bion is without a doubt the best designed flat iron on the market. The plates are SO smooth - they'll never snag or pull your hair, and the digital thermometer is great too. It's so compact and feather light..no crampy hands or uncomfortable bulkiness to get used to.
Still.. I guess all good things come to an end. My poor Bion finally crapped out on me a couple days ago. At first it would show the error message a couple times and heat up to insane temperatures (like 250C), and then after that it would keep turning itself off - eventually not turning on at all, no matter how many times I pushed the test/reset button - which, by the way, will usually solve the problem if it doesn't turn on. Granted, I didn't take the best care of it - sometimes I would forget to turn it off and leave it on all day on the highest setting, I'd drop it all the time and I'd wrap the cord around it when I put it away, but still.. it had a good run.
I'm going to try the Sedu next because of the good reviews. I'm going to miss my Bion though :( It's definitely worth a shot, I really loved it.
PS - the pictures aren't the best quality, and I haven't worn my hair curly in so long that I don't even have any "before" pictures - but I hope they give you some kind of idea of how straight/shiny this little iron will get your hair.
This is LoVe!!

This flat iron is by far the best I have ever used. Infact.. my hair has gotten spoiled.. When my first Bion disconnected from the cord (I had already had it for a year) none of the other irons I tried would straighten my hair.. my hair had grown accustom to that wonderful iron and would not straighten otherwise. I was amazed that the Bion iron even lasted for a year because I use mine every day and all of my other irons only lasted a few monthes tops. My hair always feels silky after use (and I know it's severely damaged because I bleach and dye all of the time)and nothing else can beat how straight my hair ends up, not even the professional salons I go to can do as well straightening my hair as I can. So I have my new one and it works amazingly. I know it is hard to trust reviews and it is always possible that you get sent a faulty one, but this product is better than any of the ones you would buy on this site. You can also do flips at the ends and little curls so it styles in many ways. Even with the humidity it manages to stay straight and I have extremely thick and curly hair. Yes, it isn't cheap but it is an excellent investment. --Jenna

I bought my Bion about 5 years ago and it just fried out on me last month. It's a fairly good streightener, I bought it when it was $230 and it was a good investment, but I think i want to try a GHD
These irons are inexpensive to fix

I had the same problem with my daughter's iron malfunctioning. Local service was not possible. I took it apart myself and found that the SW128T 10A thermal fuse had blown. This is a $2 part available from many electronic component stores.
You do need to be handy to change the fuse.
Fantastic!

OK, I read a lot of those bad reviews and had to write in to say how fantastic these straighteners have been for me. I have owned mine for 4 years now and have only just started to see some problems with the temperature - for some reason it starts to cool down when actually straightening the hair, but if I just stop for 15 seconds or so between each bit, it goes back to the right temperature. Even if they did break now, I have well had my moneys worth (and they cost $200 4 years ago, so a bargain now!). Hair is left feeling smooth, shiny and it doesn't snag your hair like many cheap straighteners.
I did have some initial problems with the straighteners switching itself off the first time you turn on, but just had to reset and then it was fine. This problem completely disappeared when I moved house about 8 months later, bit weird but I was happy, so it didn't seem to be a problem with the straighteners themselves.
When these finally break, I'll definitely be buying the same ones again.
not worth it!

Like alot of others I see...mine worked great for about the first year.. now it just woun't work at all, I think for the amount of money this costs it should last way longer!! So if your thinking of getting this one, think again!! Waste of your money:(

After doing some research, I chose this model for my wife, who really likes it's features, light weight, performance, and portability. A great bargain for the price.

I am here again. Once more to say only good things about this product. I brought mine July 9, 2004 and it is still working like I just brought it. IT "STILL" WORKS GREAT. It works great on my fine african american hair, especially when it is nearly time for a perm, and on my step-daughters puerto-rican curls. It straigtens and shines.
others are better

I had this flat iron, and its was ok. It stopped working after a year and the cord attachment broke. I would recommend the Sedu. It works better than this iron and I had it for well over a year and it only broke because I stepped on it by mistake. I bought a new one and its great.

I got mine in October 2004 and worked really good for a year and a half. From that point on, I would have to go over each strand like 5 times and once I step out of the house...it would look all kinky and frizzy.
It does not work!~!~

I bought this straightener almost 2 years ago, and the first year it worked wonders. But lately, it hasn't been working as well. And it CANNOT take the slightest amount of humidity. I recommend something else instead if you're looking for long term use.
Only lasted a year

I bought this iron over a year ago and it worked great but a little while ago its started to smell like it was on fire. And not long after that it just stopped working, for something that expensive to just stop working is kind of bad but it worked great for that first year.
works well with thin hair

I have pretty thin hair and I got this flat iron about six months ago. It works well, although you do have to go over spots 3-4 times before it's perfectly straight, and in the humidity of Florida aven that isn't enough to make it stay straight. It still works like it's brand new six months later so I can't comlain.
Doesn't deliver what it says!

I've had this straightner for 4 years and the cord just now broke out of it... but I do have to agree with some people you have to go over the spot a few times to straighten ... not worth the money its to expensive and not that great
