This is when I use my biosilk and it work great for me before I straighten/curl my elbow-length hair so I really hope this helps. A night time routine.

Once I'm out of the shower I let my hair mostly air dry (which is the healthier choice than blowdrying at night because your hair is weakest when wet) I place a dime size amount and run it through all over and leave it alone. By morning all my hair is dry, soft and ready for my hot tools. Also, that alcohol scent is gone from my hair. After its straightened I rub a few drops and place it just on my ends. So yes, I use it before and a little after my hot tools, and it works wonderfully.

Please note:
A little really does a lot!
Read the directions, shake the bottle.
Do NOT put on roots.

Straightening and Biosilk
submitted by: Meghan, Sat Jan 26 2008

I was just recently told by my stylist that Biosilk is supposed to be a finishing product. Due to the alcohol content of Biosilk, you shouldn't use it if you're going to straighten your hair. Personally, I like Biosilk for added shine on unstyled hair, but if you're going to go straight I recommend Chi Silk Infusion. It smells great and it actually works as a reconstructive treatment when used in conjuction with a flat iron. Also, to reduce heat damage, I recommend Chi Infra Shampoo, Infra Treatment and 44 Iron Guard it will significantly decrease damage.

AFTER WASHING AND TOWEL DRYING YOUR HAIR, PUT A NICKEL SIZED AMOUNT THROUGHOUT HAIR, WORK IT THROUGH. BLOW DRY HAIR. YOU CAN PUT IT IN EVERYDAY, ON DRY HAIR ONLY USE A DIME SIZED AMOUNT, SO HAIR DOSEN'T LOOK GREASY.

Certain types of alcohols are used to moisturerize
submitted by: Pamela A., Sun May 13 2007

The term alcohol is very generic label for a class of molecules that are quite varied in both their use and in their chemical make-up. Often those used in cosmetics or hair products, such as SD Alcohol 40-B that is in Biosilk, is used for it's emulsify or moisturizing effects. So I don't think there is any fear that this product will do damage over time.

check out this link to the FDA for a break down of different categories of "alcohol":

I LOVE IT!!!!

I have been using biosilk for 2 yrs..and I love it...I have extremely curly coily hair...I have to flat iron my hair in really small sections...and I put biosilk on every section that I flat iron...It doesnt leave my hair oily or dirty looking...Try putting a dime size glob on the back of your hand...spread it a little (so it doesnt drip off) then you just take your pointer finger fingertip and touch the biosilk...rup your pointer finger and thumb together...take the section of hair that you are going to flat iron and smooth the biosilk on the hair (the pointer finger should be smoothing it on the top of the section and the thumb should be smoothing the bottom of section)and then flat iron...Hopefully this helps out...

Works great and really hydrates my hair

A lot of people comment about the alcohol thats in this product. I have a tip to get rid of some of the alcohol in the biosilk before you apply it to your hair.
1. Place desired amount of Biosilk in palm of hand and then rub it in your hands
2. If you immediately smell the Biosilk you can smell the alcohol.
3. The trick is to wave your hands to allow the alcohol to evaporate before applying it to your hair. Also by doing this if you smell the Biosilk once again you will notice that the smell of the alcohol is gone.

For REALLY dry, frizzy hair...

I'm African American with really dry, really nappy hair. I discovered this product from my stylist when I was still getting relaxers. This product works really well BUT it's not something that works alone for this type of hair.

Right now I'm using the Biosilk shampoo and conditioner. After towel drying, I use a bunch of Paul Mitchel's Medium Hold Foam to detangle my hair. The foam is also does some light conditioning and gets my hair to the point where I can comb through it with effort.

Afterwards, I let my hair air dry. (4 hours later) Then I apply the Biosilk Silk Therapy before I use my ionic (Solia) flat iron. As long as you keep your ends cut, your hair will look amazing. I live in the humid South and I rarely have to do a midweek touch up to keep my hair straight!

When i heard that there was something out there called Biosilk Silk Therapy i went to the Salon and got my own a few tymes i used it and it worked great...but the thing is that just put a tiny bit and do not put it near the scalp use it more near the tip of your hair and maybe if needed on your highlighted parts. You only need a pinch and it would make your hair great and smell great but the thing is if you use alot your hair goes greast within a day or two......
