Is this a heat protectant?
I am confused as to if this serves as a heat protectant or not because on this site it is listed under heat protectant but I've also heard that you use this product ALONG with a heat protectant so do I also need to put heat protectant in my hair when I use this with my flat iron?

does Biosilk have PARABENS?
does it have any of the following: Methylparabens, Butylparabens, Isopropylparabens, Ethylparabens. If it does, tell me, because it is a health concern if it has any PARABENS at all!

Yes it does. I got this from an answer to another question below. "Methylparaben, Propylparaben: These are all preservatives, and maintains the integrity of the product (keeps it free from mold, for example). "

I got this from another answer to a previous question which breaks down all the ingredients in this product: "...Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben: These are all preservatives, and maintains the integrity of the product (keeps it free from mold, for example). It should be noted that some researchers believe these to be carcinogenic substances when encountered in large doses. In trace amounts (like you find in your hair products), they should be fine..."

I use garnier hair products and I think that it would make the biosilk watery and might effect how well the product works....

Relaxed Hair
I just recently purchased this product from a salon and I still need some help on a few things. I read the reviews which were kind of helpful, but I am wondering how exactly this will make my hair look. I bought this product along with shampoo and conditioner for a great value but STILL I could easily go to the beauty store and buy something for less than 10.00 and it work just fine on my hair. So, with all that being said what results can I expect with my hair being relaxed. My hair is thick and I get relaxers about every 6 weeks. I also flat iron it with my Solia straightener which always gives it great results. Should I just stick to my cheaper but still quality products, or is this BioSilk really worth it...Someone please help......

Is this good for when you flat iron?
I was just wondering cause, I was looking for a good product to use on my hair for a pre flat ironing product. I was wondering will it help the straightening process, cause I have long, thick hair.

youre probably putting too much in. put 2-3 drops on your palm and rub it in with your hands. then go over your hair.

i towel dry my hair and then put the biosilk silk therapy in... i mainly put it towards the ends though, because it might not feel like anything at first when your hair is wet, but trust me, a few times i put in too much and near the scalp and my roots were greasy. so use sparingly! then blowdry/straighten

You dont put it in while your in the shower. you can put it in after towel drying if you plan on blow drying just for control. I find that it works best to put a very small amount into your hands and rub them together to make it work this makes the silk basically activate and then run it through your hair. It will protect your hair and hydrate it, leaving a nice finishing shine and a more controled style

I put this in my hair after the shower when my hair is still damp. I feel it makes my hair less prone to frizz. I have read that your hair absorbs more moisture if you moisturize when it's wet, so I do. I shower at night so I let my hair moisterize for 8 hours without doing anything to it whatsover. I have wavey hair which I usually straighten, but even when I want it wavey I just put it in my damp hair and it dries without frizz and with healthy looking curls. When I put it on dry hair, I feel like my hair doesn't absorb enough moisture. That's just my two cents.

Is this biosilk silk therapy oil?

No, Biosilk is not oil (not in the traditional sense, anyway). It is mostly made up of silicone-style products. Here's a breakdown of the ingredients: Cyclomethicone & Dimethicone: silicones that coat the hair follicle, making cuticles lie flat and hair look shiny. Gives a "dry" silky feel, so that it doesn't feel like you have sticky oil on your hair. Prevents moisture loss by forming a barrier on the follicle. SD Alcohol 40B: A quick drying alcohol solvent. Often used in hairspray. Panthenol: aka vitamin B5. Attracts moisture from the air and binds it to follicle. Doesn't *nourish* the hair, simply coats it. Used in many shampoos. Ethyl Ester of Hydrolyzed Silk: I think this is a form of silk extract, makes hair soft and gives it slip. Octyl Methoxycinnamate: a form of sunscreen. C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate: From what I can gather, this serves a similar purpose to the -cones. Also supposed to condition hair & skin. Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben: These are all preservatives, and maintains the integrity of the product (keeps it free from mold, for example). It should be noted that some researchers believe these to be carcinogenic substances when encountered in large doses. In trace amounts (like you find in your hair products), they should be fine. The jury's still out on the health aspects. The -cones and alkyl benzoate don't really moisturize hair (or skin) so much as prevent moisture loss. It's important to realize that hair is essentially dead. You can't "feed" it, only prevent further damage. Some of the ingredients in Biosilk are often found in lotions and creams for the skin because they give a silky smooth feel and help lock moisture in. However, most lotions don't have SD alcohol in them either, so I'd take the claims about Biosilk being good for your skin with a grain of salt. For the record, I just bought Biosilk, and I quite like it. I think there's some confusion though about what it is and what it can do. Although I have some basic knowledge of chemistry, I am not a chemist, nor a hair stylist. This information is based on my own research, and is not endorsed by Biosilk or this website. I hope this post provides answers to questions others may have about this product.
