Good product for going very dark.

I've used various shades of Bigen periodically over the past few years and have come to the conclusion that this product is best used if you want dark hair. I believe it is formulated to cover gray hair and make it the description on the package, but non-gray hair will become much darker. Ex. If you use the dark brown on gray/white hair you'll get a dark brown, but on brown hair you'll get a black result. So select a lighter shade than you think you need. I've also noticed that diluting the product with more water than it says to makes the color take lighter, but causes it to be more semi/demi-permanent and wash out in a few weeks... at least on my hair. Be sure to do a patch test because I think this product has a lot of PPD, which is why it dyes so strongly, and many are allergic or develop a sensitivity to it over time. Again; good to cover mostly gray hair or go very dark, but that seems to be about it.
It's all Black!

How does one differentiate one color from the next? I started out using 56 and it was too black; then next i tried 54, still black; finally bought #46 med. chestnut and it's still black! I don't see any color difference between one # to the next! They all seem BLACK!
Works well, but makes you bleed for your cause

I'm giving Bigen a "Good" rating for the results on my hair alone. My skin is a completely different story. I tried Bigen and I was very happy with the results. It didn't fade, my hair was soft and had body and bounce. I used it twice, maybe three times, and the second and third time my head broke out in horrid sores and I itched like crazy. I couldn't even brush my hair because it set off my scalp and drove me CRAZY. Plus they bled and oozed, which is just too gross to deal with every day. The sores healed and the itching stopped after scrubbing my head with shampoo a few times to get the residue off. I look longingly at the Bigen boxes now when I see them. I miss the results, but it hardly seems worth the week of suffering!
It made my face blow up.

Just like the woman Thelma G from Houston, My face was completely swollen. Had to get tons of shots at the hospital. The reason why i didn't know why my face was swollen was because i had used it once before. I was misserable for almost a moth, and couldn't leave my house, My face looked like one million bees stung me. I just want to let you guys know that you might not have a reaction today, but please do a text on your arm every time you use it. There were fluids comming out of my head, onto my pillow.

I loved the color of Bigen Brown/Black, the soft feel of my hair and the oodles of compliments for the past four years on the shine and consistent color from my roots to my ends! I, however, have somehow developed an itchy feeling to my scalp when I dye my hair lately (for the last three months). I have scratched my itchy scalp while waiting the 20-minute dye time and have developed sores that mostly puss and sometimes bleed. I am not sure whether this newly developed pattern of "ouchiness" is because I am turning 50, my metabolism might be changing again, or because I am taking new daily vitamins. My first self-diagnosis thoughts were my long term use of the BIGEN product. Only time will tell I guess...this was the only product I have ever used since those nasty signs of aging became prevelent. I am going to have to research another product. I want you to know that I have had great results for the past four years and hope someday to come back to BIGEN.

I should have done the allergy test first. Although the color is beautiful (Oriental Black), my head is burning, itching, red, and has a rash for the past week.

My natural hair color is very dark brown and prefer to actually lighten my hair. I have been dying my hair of and on since the age of 19 but over time I experienced hair breakage. Since I have used Bigen Expressions in Cafe Latte I have noticed my hair is soft, brilliantly colored and no breakage. It is also the easiest color I have mixed and applied. No odor, ammonia or other harsh chemicals! Just beautiful hair that I get compliments on all the time!

I used this product and after 3 months I am still having allergic reactions to it. My face was so swollen that I wasn't recongizable, my skin is still irritated after almost three months. I have lost most of my hair, due to using this product.

Bigen #59 Oriental Black offers a deep, rich color that will not fade over time. This product/color also leaves your hair managable w/ a brilliant shine, no other hair color compares. Did I mention that this product is a healthy/safe way to color your hair w/ no harsh chemicals to damage the hair cuticles?!!!!!!?

I loved Bigen hair color but when my gray became more pronounced and resistant I had to stop using it. (I tried going lighter and mixing colors and nothing helped)
I had one other problem after using it for a long period of time; I would get small bumps on my scalp that itched. I asked several beauticians and clerks what the ingredients were, and nobody could respond. I would like to see the ingredients listed.
I am only giving it a two-star rating because of my problem with resistant gray.
still using after 15 years

I have not found another product that not only looks natural but covers gray hair so well. I mix light chestnut and medium chestnut( together and it keeps the color from looking black. The result is (46&47)a dark brown. I also add over these two colors the Expressive color, fine wine and the result is a dark brown with mahogany higlites. My hairstylist really likes the color, enough said.

This hair color has been by farthest the worst hair color i have tried. I have to say im so disapointed at the results and not only that the color was deceiving as to what the box said but it damaged and left my hair extremly dry .
Unless you want to use this awful product i would advice you to look closely at what you buy.
i would truly give it a half of star
Finally a color that works

I have gray mainly around my face. All the color products that I have used just look so fake...one color. I had just about given up when I saw Bigen at Wal-Mart. I applied Bigen (a shade lighter than my natural hair color) just on the gray using a small brush and a fine toothed comb. Twenty minutes later, it looks so natural and didn't dry my hair out. I have so many allergies that I expected the patch test to break me out. It was wonderful to find a product that works for me. I really like the fact that you mix up only the amount you need.
By far the best alternative to regular dye hair

This product is amazing, it is by far the best alternative to dye hair. I have resistant gray hairs and Bigen has lasted up to 4 weeks, even though I wash my hair daily. I fully recommend it to anyone who wants best quality for the lowest price.

I rate Bigen as 'excellent' but there is no warning on the packet that it contains PPD. PPD is present in all dark permanet colours. Most people who are allergic to hair dyes are allergic to that chemical.I had a severe irration -- it is not 'chemical free' and not pure veg. dye as consumers are led to believe.
I would recommend a patch test to be sure

i've been using Bigen hair color, both the dark auburn & light chestnut, for the past five or so years. the only drawback is that the color becomes very intense & somewhat darker if left on the hair for more than 15-20 minutes. there's no nasty smell & my hair is incredibly soft & shiny after coloring. i've got a fair amount of gray hair & this product covers it completely.

My daughter has dark brown hair and colored it a light bright reddish brown. when her roots grew out she wanted to color her hair dark brown again. I read other reviews about this color and the it colored darker than one would think, so I ordered the light chestnut. She left it in the recommended 30 minutes and the color was perfect dark brown, no roots.
