Horrible, Horrible, Horrible!!

The first time I used this product I couldn't tell if it was in fact the cause of my allergic reaction. Uncontrollable itching all over my body. I had to go to the doctor and get an emergency steroid shot. I just recently used this product again and was amazed of the amount of stress and problems it has caused me. As I read some of the comments I to can relate with many of the side effects. For example, swollen face and eyes alomost shut, uncontrollable itching scalp that when scratch would just ooze and drain, eyes blood shot like the pink eye. I can't believe that there are others out there who have experienced these symptoms. I had to get another shot to help ease the discomfort. I'm writing this to send a word do CAUTION!! to those who are using this product.
DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!!

I only used a tad bit of this product around my thinning hairline. I did this to make the thin hair there appear darker thus making my hairline seem fuller. This was just over 24hrs ago and now I have a NASTY Fluid filled swollen rash all around my hairline! I'm so scared that this is going to get worse. DO NOT use this product!
Sudden Severe Allergic Reaction

After using this product for many years, I developed a severe allergic reaction to Bigen. Right after I applied it to my head, I turned bright red all over, developed a pounding headache and my blood pressure went way up. My air passages shut down and I couldn't breathe. After being rushed to the ER, I was put on oxygen and given medication through an IV. I was told that I had an anaphylactic reaction to the product.

I found out this product has some harsh chemicals and is really a henna type color. My perm did not take and my hair in bad shape with relaxed uneven want-a-be curls after getting a spiral perm. This product makes sure you have very little elasticity in your your hair. Buyer Beware! I wish I knew this befor eand not have to wait until my hair out growns this product.

I've been using this product for years. Today i had a severe reaction to bigen my whole face is swollen. This product is very dangerous and needs to be taken off the market before someone dies from using it.

I used # 96 Deep Burgundy and wow I wished I was born blond or have a full grey of hair in order to make the purple pop out, but I still love my hair. It has purple highlights due to some light grey hair here and there. The natural dark brown turned a dark purple color. I especially love the texture. My hair never felt so manageable since I was a little girl. Best of all no more bundle of hair in the drain. Other dyes would make my hair sticky or worse fall off, but not Bigen. I highly recommend this product. I just wish they would have specials and lower the price (five bucks is too much for a tiny bottle of powder, you can get two boxes of another dye with that same price). Other than price everything else is awesome.
Bigen is the best dye ever!!!!!

I used Bigen for the first time, I attend an Aveda Concept salon and had my hair stylist dyed my hair from Dark Brown to black and the color the salonist used did not take. I used Bigen 6 weeks later for the first time and came out with the blackest black I ever seen my hair. The new trend in ethnic women is black hair and that is what I wanted to acheive and I got it this time. Bigen is the best hands down!!!!

This product is good. I advise that u do a prep skin test and use a protein filler prior to applying the color.

I remember the little box of Bigen hair dye since a was very little, (in the 70's) but tried for the 1st time in year 1990, over the last 20 years ive changed my hair color from deep blue black up to the palest ash/beige blonde...however during the last 4 years ive decided be a dark brunette, and what a better choice that Bigen!! i started with #57(dark brown) which was a little too dark for what i was looking for, over time and as new hair grew (about 2 years) i gradually mixed and then completely switched to #58(medium brown) and its just perfect!! a deep, elegant, luscious dark shade of ash brown....looks extremely shiny, and very soft (No more ammonia, no more peroxide, no more harsh chemicals, or nasty odors, just beautiful dark, natural and healthy hair..another pro is that since this does NOT contain peroxide, u never get that nasty copperish/brassy tone u may get with regular, peroxide based hair dyes, that just appliedd look good but a month later it looks orange agaiinst the light (yuck) Bigen does not even require re-dying, only root touch ups about every 6/8 weeks and a full head coloring every 6 months for refreshing...Yes results are dark, because the formula seems to have a lot of green -excellent to neutralize that nasty orange u get against the light when air is dyed with other products, so DONT USE if you are "afraid of the dark" also u have to apply it VERY fast because the mixture starts working as soon as u mix it with the water, and full developing time is about 20 min so hurry up applying it if u want the best results!! Now that the shade #88(blue black came out im tempted to soak my hair into it, but 1st i want my hair down to my tail bone for that look.

My mom used for many many year my aunts and now i am getting gray hair i started using the oriental black.No problems so far hope it stays that way

I've been using this product for over 10 years and ADORE it!!!
The important points are....
1. It is a permanent color that DARKENS hair!!! No matter what shade you get, it WILL MAKE YOUR HAIR DARKER!!! It is GREAT for covering up grey hair, but if you don't want you hair to get too dark, START WITH A LIGHTER SHADE!!! (You can always go darker, but NOT lighter.) It is PERMANENT so once you color your hair, if it's too dark - IT WILL NOT GET LIGHTER OVER TIME! If you try a shade that is too dark for your taste, trying a lighter shade WILL NOT lighten the area that is already colored. If you are trying to cover your grey and have dark hair, a lighter shade will color the grey a lighter color but also darken your normal hair.
2. For a permanent color, it is probably the most gentle hair color I've tried (and I've tried a lot of brands!). I've used it when my hair was straightened (Yuko) and permed - and it was fantastic! Granted, I have very healthy hair (never had a problem with split ends) and I use a very moisturizing conditioner.
3. Some people will be sensitive to the ingredients (some reviewers have had severe reactions) so it is IMPORTANT TO DO A SPOT TEST if it is your first time!!! Unfortunately not everyone can use this product.
Most hair stylists can't tell I use a permanent hair color (unless I've let the roots grow out) because my hair texture is so soft and healthy. In fact, when I get my hair straightened, they have to leave in the processor products in for an extra amount of time because my hair is so healthy (despite coloring it about every 4-6 weeks).

I must agree with those who have written reviews over their faces becoming swollen. My mother, who has been using this product for almost a decade, started receiving different reactions to this product over a year ago. (I'm not sure why it recently started, though). However, it is a very serious problem that must be addressed. I cannot quite explain how awful the swelling was, but if it wasn't for her outfit and her voice, I would not have recognized her at all. She warned me of what happened, and still when I saw her, it really scared me. I'm sure it hurt her feelings a lot from my reaction; she truly looked like an entirely different person. Not knowing if BIGEN was the source, we tried again the next month, and sure enough.. her body swelled once again. She stopped using BIGEN but still used it to colour my father's hair. Sure enough, that reacted with her again - even though she was wearing rubber gloves and a long-sleeved shirt. Please be aware of our warnings. This is a dangerous product to use. The colours come out nice, but the results may be extremely harmful. Please use with caution.

I too had a horrible allergic reaction to this dye. I used the Oriental Black. Within a day or so, my face became painfully swollen, knots formed in my head and on the back of my neck. Approximately three days later, my body begin itching all over. I also have scabs along my hairline that leaked pus for two days....
I had to go to the ER to get a steroid shot and Benadryl! It was awful. I will never use or recommend this product again.

The reason I say that Bigen is for me is because I am highly allergic to many things,( I am allergic to approx'ly 300 things) but I got surperb results from Bigen.I'm 59 yrs old & had not put a rinse or dye in my hair for 4 yrs. I am a black woman with redish hair,(as when I was a kid & growing up, my hair was always redish)but gray hair started to take over, so I started to look older. I was told about Bigen last yr, but I was reluctant to use it. So I bought the #59 because I wanted Black hair. I am happy to say that I look 20 yrs younger. I have not had any reactions yet, and it have been 1 month. I was afraid to use it at first, but I am glad I did. Please, try not to use Bigen the way you want to use it. Go by the instructions. I always give myself an conditioner 2 days before I perm, then I waited 2 weeks to use the Bigen. My hair is very black, the way I always wanted it, & I look and feel great. No itching, no swelling, no rash, or nothing. Normally, if I get a reaction from something, it will be right away, or within 24 hrs. Bigen will be my dye until it shows me different. Thanks Bigen!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will enjoy it while it last.

I performed a skin test and after 24hours had a raised area that itches like mad. Though it contains no ammonia or peroxide it contains PPD. Make sure you perform the skin test first.

This is the second time I have used the Bigen hair color....and I will never use it again. My eyes have swollen shut and my head is completely filled with sores. After the first application I was so pleased with the product that I decide to use it again and this is what I am faced with. Puss in my head, swollen lymph nodes in my neck, behind my ears, and eyes that resemble the pink eye. What a horrible feeling. I have never has an allergic reaction to a product before. I will NEVER use this again and suggest that other womenof color refrain from uisng it also!

I have naturally brown hair and wanted the 'jet black', look so I tried the Bigen 59 brand AND FOUND IT TO WORK VERY WELL in giving me that rich black look that I've always wanted. The first application went well, after 2-3 mths I decided to re-touch my roots thats when all hell broke loose. Within minutes I noticed my hair getting very irritated ,my ears were swollen and my scalp itched LIKE CRAZY. My eyes were itching and some small bumps appeared on my eye lids causing it to itch and become VERY irritated. I had to put anti itch and antibiotic cream on my scalp and prayed for the night mare to end. I now have bald spots in portions of my hair.Its a good product but you just have to be careful.

I have really long upto my lower back hair. It was black before I wanted to have it highlighted. Since i have dark hair the highlights would takes as easily. My finally result looked blond!! Imagine black hair w/really blond hightlights. Totally unnatural. I was trying to grow it out without cutting my long hair and without putting any harsh chemicals on it. I found Bigen and it totally got me back to my natural black hair. I had used 1 bottle #48 but it wasn't enough and left me with light brown patches over my head. I bought 2 more #47 bottles and it did the job! I really loved the results. My hair looks super healthy and shiny!

I purchased This hair color 2 days ago, I was excited to try out something new, and it was recommended to me... I was so disappointed, the color did not stay in my hair, there was no difference. It was a waste of money. I would not recommend this to any one. Stick with liquid.
