Does phenol and p-phenyleneiamine mean the same thing? Do they have the same ingredients?

phenol and p-phenyleneiamine are two different chemicals. Phenol is a benzene group with an alcohol group on it, and p-phenyleneiamine contains an amine group somewhere. Other than that I don't know what they do.

Ok with different hair types?
I assume this product is used amongst people of various ethnicities. Does it matter if you have a hair-type such as asian/caucausian/african? (Does this product work work any hair type?)

I happen to be African American, and a hairdresser. I used the product on my mothers hair, she has 60 percent gray hair,40 percent black. Her hair is relaced permed and was coming out somewhat with double processing it. While using Bigen I noticed after 3 months a reduction in hair loss. Her hair is very shiny glossy and look softer and moisture loss boosted. We use a protein conditioner.

Dye job come out too dark?
Technically, you're supposed to administer a patch test in order to determine how long you need to keep the color on your hair to get the color you desire. I ignored that the first time I used this product and my hair ended up bright orange! Ironically, as it grew out, the orange faded to the color advertised on the box(honey blonde). The good news for all you whose hair turned out really dark? If you don't want to wait for the dye to grow out, Bigen is really easy to reapply a different color over another. I used this product last year to dye my hair red and when I changed my mind I merely dyed it back to my original dark brown a few days later.

No the color will not easily be removed after using it. I use the oriental black and i tried to get blond highlights I had to bleach it out twice with 40 volume developer and it burned my hair before it got the color out. I suggest that you use a regular hair color if you want to get highlights done.

From my experience nothing. Perhaps if you wash your hair 2 times a day with scolding hot water.

It's a permanent color so removal would be virtually impossible unless you got it stripped and dyed another color which is very damaging!

Semi vs Permanent
I went to purchase a box of the Bigen Hair Color the box indicated Permanent. The box use to say Semi-Permanent. I have relaxed hair. I was afraid to put the color on my hair because it know says permanent. Please explain.

ANY color you use when you have a relaxer is going to come out darker and stay in longer than someone who has virgin hair. Although BIGEN is permanent, I have applied this product to relaxed hair many times. It can be used a lot sooner than peroxide-containing hair colors and only needs to be left on the hair for a few minutes. Typically only 15 minutes, although you may want to check with your stylist. I have never known this product to have ever said, "Semi-Permanent" ever.

Shade
Are the numbers in line with the level of darkness? I have been using chocolate # 45 which is a beautiful color but I was thinking of going a shade lighter. Is light chestnut# 46lighter or darker than chocolate?

BIGEN : Semi-Permanent ??
I have been informed that even though it states "PERMANENT" on the box, it actually is a SEMI-permanent hair color! Reasons given: no ammonia and no peroxide.I am looking for a SEMI-permanent color (to cover my gray) that washes away slowly with every shampoo. I would prefer to use BIGEN because of it's simplicity of application and lack of harsh chemicals.Appreciate input from regular user. Thanks a bunch :)

I have used regular dies permanent and semi-permanent and they have both damaged my hair. I started using Bigen and it doesn't damage my hair. It's soft and silky and my ends dont feel dryed out. It does wash out slowly my color lasts longer though than with regular dies. It covers my gray good.
