WARNING, If you like to straighten and hold the iron with both hands to close it you WILL burn yourself! The outside part of the iron gets just as hot and is the same length as the plates on the inside, and they both get hot enough to burn you...or curl your hair if you will.

Yes this iron can get to 475 degrees, but to avoid that "burnt smell" turn the heat setting down...good product will help you straighten on a much less severe temp.

REMEMBER to ALWAYS straighten a clean head of hair. Before you shower, give your scalp stimulation by combing, or brushing your hair, then ALWAYS wash with Shampoo and conditioner that has good heat helping properties. Massage it in, rub and stimulate your scalp. Always towel dry or blow dry your hair prior to straightening.

-Dirty hair has oils, dead hair, dirt & debris etc, Think: what happens when you mix oils and high heat? - You'll end up frying your hair.

-Always dry your hair (towel/ blow dry) before you straighten. Think: what happens when you add high heat and water? - You can boil your hair easily which will damage or break it.

-Also, if you want to maintain healthier hair longer and keep it straight, dont always zoom the Babyliss to 475 or 450 degrees, Turn it down. Yes you'll have to make more passes thru the hair, and yes it'll take maybe 5 or 10 min more (depending on hair) but a little time given to your hair will give you more time of healthy un-fried hair.

-After straightening (or prior to) use an Anti-Frizz product, and use a gloss spray for extra shine and humid weather. (when it rains, go home or cover your head!!! Humidity after the rain is your enemy!)

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT DROP this Iron. Like most irons, things chip, split or can break if you dont treat them carefully. Always set the iron as far away from the edge of the counter/table. Since the outside of the iron gets hot as well you may need a heat resistant cloth to place it on. When traveling, i usually pack it within a case, or wrap a towel around it.

Keep the Iron clean, and keep the Titanium plates clean. When the iron is off and cold, some water and a cotton Q-tip can clean quite well.
