I purchased this iron in Sept, 2006. I've had it only 6 months. The cord is pulling away from the iron exposing wires. After plugging it in, sparks flew and blew a fuse. I would expect better quality for this price. Buyer beware.
Unbelievably Huge.

Stop! Don't buy this one - buy a smaller one. You can't possibly need a curling iron this big. From the image online, it really seemed like what I was looking for, but what a mistake. When it arrived, I was horrified, embarrassed, and I felt like a complete fool for ever having ordered it. This curling iron is way too big to actually use.
Exactly what I needed

My hair is not extremely long, but I want to give it a smooth, slightly curved-under look. The 1 1/2 inch curling iron gave it too much curl. This curling iron is perfect for what I want. When I told my hairdresser about it, she told me that Hot Tools are really good irons. I have been using it for two weeks, and am so pleased I am going to order another for my travel bag (and to have as back-up.)

This product is great!....while it is working. I bought it and used it for about a month and it just stopped getting hot. Didn't drop it or anything, it just no longer got hot. I called the manufacturer and they replaced it with no problem. Great customer service!!!! But I have now had my 2nd one for a few months and it just stopped getting hot again. So, great while it works but stops getting hot for no reason.
I'm a repeat customer of this item

My most recent purchase of the 2 inch curling iron made 4 of this same curling iron that I've bought from Folica. You absolutely can't find a 2 inch curling iron anymore in stores. I've bought one for me, my daughter, my daughter-in-law and an extra for the dorm over the past year or so. We love this product.
2" Curling Iron by Hot Tools

After I adjusted to the weight of the iron, I love the no-frizz body that this curling iron gives. I had a lighter weight 2" curling iron for several years that recently began sticking and the spring is worn out, so I knew I wanted another 2" iron. I read the reviews and purchased the Hot Tools iron for my daughter for Christmas. She loved it and I too tried it and loved it so much, I purchased one for myself too.

I love this curling iron! It heats up fast and works great! I love how it is larger than the normal ones so that I can do loose spirals and a bigger flip.
Works Great!

This curling iron is super! Heats evenly and results in a nice gentle wave. As other reviewers have stated, it's also good for volume. It feels solidly-built. It's nice that you can vary the temperature.
Love it!!!

My hair goes down to my midback, it's wavy/frizzy, I never really had any styling tools for my hair ( never really knew hoe to do anything to my hair except a ponytail, so this is the first one. I love it !! what a huge difference it made for my looks, after I use it my hair feels and looks shiny and silky ... BIG difference from B4. I've also been getting alot of compliments from friends and strangers ... what a mood boost. See I was researching alot B4 buying a hair straighting tool, i was about ready to buy a $100+ .. after all the researching
I decided to try the 2" curling iron .. it straightens the and leaves the ends with a nice soft wave .. One of the best investment I've done it a long time. A++
Okay, but I liked the 1 1/2" size better....

I have really long hair and I didn't find this iron to curl the ends under hardly at all. It would probably be better used as a straightener. I previously owned the same make, but it was a 1 1/2 inch iron, which worked much, much, better. It gets pretty hot, but I would definately recommend getting the smaller one (1 1/2").
I love this tool

This is the second 2 inch curling iron from hot tools that I've purchased. The first one, I had for a long time and 'till it finally broke. Unfortunatelly I couldn't buy another one right away since I had just purchased an expensive flat iron just before my curling iron broke.
Well, a whole month passed by and I just didn't like how my hair looked!.. I used all my other curling irons but I just didn't like the look it gave my hair, not even my new expensive flat iron made me happy... I like it and all, but I didn't want my hair plain flat every day!
I finally ordered my hot tool (fat)curling iron and got it in a few days. I was very exited when I got it! and of course I used it right away! I just love the volume and nautural wave look that it gives my hair. I truly recommend it 100%.
Great for Thick Hair!

I have below shoulder length thick hair that loves this curling iron. I am now able to add body without ending up with ringlets and the volumn is just right and long-lasting! Wish I had one of these sooner.
buy this instead of a straightener

This is a great, inexpensive product that can be used instead of a straightener. I find the expensive ceramic and tourmaline straighteners make my hair too straight with no body. The 2" Hot tools curling iron can straighten big sections of hair much quicker than most straighteners with a bouncy, professionally styled look. Love it!

I bought mine after borrowing a friends on a trip to Europe in 1999. At the time, I paid $45 for it in a salon. It finally "gave up the ghost" at the end of 2006 (seems to have a short in the wire). I am DEFINITELY purchasing another.
I love the heavy-weight of it. My lighter Conair iron doesn't grip my hair nearly as well, and doesn't curl as fast, nor do the curls hold as tight or as long. This Hot Tools iron grips the ends of the hair and doesn't let go until you want it to. The weight made it awkward to use at first, but I got used to it and its the best iron I've ever used.
It does get very hot, so I only use a low setting for my thin/color-treated hair, and I still don't roll it too close to my scalp. But it heats up immediately, and the heat does make the curling go faster (I can curl my whole head in under 5 minutes, which means my hair gets curled even when I'm running late!).
My only problem, other than the short in the 7 year old wire, is I accidently turned it up to max setting, and it burned hairspray residue between the barrel and the clamp. My bad for not keeping it clean.
Nice for straightening

This curling iron is so big- you really won't get much of a curl with it. However it works awesome as a straightener with a slight curl under on the end. Its great for 2nd day bedhead- when you need to smooth a few strands that are messed up from the way you slept. I have basically replace my Chi straightener with this 2 inch iron.

This product is great. It makes beautiful big curls. Even though I have small hands, I do not find it too hard to use. It can be a little unwieldy in the beginning, but I got the hang of it quickly.
Puts the finishing touch on my hair when I straighten it.

I've got layered thick shoulder-length hair that I straighten with a Sedu flat iron. I soften the ends with this curling iron. Looks like I've just gotten a blow out. It doesn't really curl my hair much. Just makes it look straighter and neater. It is big in the hands, but you can make it work.
Broken in 2 Days

Best Curling Iron I have ever had, however, my first one broke after approx. one year. I bought my second one 3 days ago, broken (won't heat up!). I am wondering if there is something wrong with my electrical wiring because in one week both my Chi flat iron and my Hot Tools curling iron broke!!!
This is one class product and really afordable too!!

This is just the best and I totally disagree with the negative coments on here about them. Yes the product does get very hot so you gotta be careful, but thats what gives you lush curls too. and why the heck complain about the size. The size is great! Its so hard to find irons this big. You dont need to buy giant curlers etc.. because of the size of this. They work fantastic! If you know how to blow dry/straighten your hair or curl etc.. you will love these. but if you are the type to be all fingers n thumbs and a little clumsey etc.. then maybe consider something else as yep they can get very hot.
A few tips I would give all.. would be:-
Dont get these if you have very short hair. You will burn you head.
For best results for thicker hair, you do have to turn the temp up quite high.
Dont hold your hair at the bottom of the strand, so you nearly burn yourself, hold your hair half way down and drop the end of your hair in.
If you have thick hair, I find straighten 1st helps, then using curling irons.
And finally use good products with your hair too. helps soooo much.

I love it! It's huge and one of the biggest ones I've found. I have long hair with layers and this iron makes it look like I've had it professionally styled. I get tons of compliments on the curl. Great product, sturdy construction, love the heat settings, gets super hot (be careful! I have a burn or two lol) Super durable and long cord.
